Default Someone please clear up the wiring confusion!

I have a 93 DX hatch with a B18C waiting to be dropped in. I've heard about 463,295 different things about wiring. Is there a detailed list of what exactly needs to be done and how to do it? My swap arrived without the (JDM) wiring harness, but I should be able to pick one up. I just want to do it right the first time and haven't found much help using the search function.

With all the questions about hybyrid wiring, I would hope that someone has created (or soon will) the quintessential hybrid wiring instructions. Pictures would help, too.

I don't know that you will find the information in one place, unless you hook up with a pro, face to face. Barring that, your best bet may be to find someone whose been there and done that (exactly) and purchase large quantities of their favorite beverage. Seriously. Since you'll want them with you, or handy by phone (!)

Barring that, there are some factors that will drive the answer, such as:

Is your B18C OBD1 or OBD2 (96+)? Even if it is OBD2, is it USDM or JDM? The JDM OBD2 don't have all the sensors that the USDM does.. (e.g. CKF, Oil pump, 2nd O2).

Don't waste your money on a JDM harness. The switch from right hand drive to left hand drive makes them worthless from everything I can tell. I'm in a similar situation (RHD .vs. LHD) as I'm putting a JDM into my 96 GSR.

It also depends upon what you are using for an ECU, and what you are doing about an intake manifold.

If you keep the B18C1 (GSR) intake, it has dual runners that are switched depending upon RPM, by the ECU. Only the GSR ECU will do this, and you'll want an engine harness wired to support the electronics that make the switch.

If you use a Type R intake, aftermarket, or B16 intake (like Type R)... then you need not worry about the runner electronics.

HASPORT appears to have a DX to VTEC conversion harness. Here are some instructions that refer to it. http://www.hasport.com/Tech/Wring/92...C%20wiring.PDF

You might want to call them? Perhaps they can lead you through enough questions to point you in the right direction.

Below is some information on how to support VTEC on a DX that you might find helpful, though not a direct answer (exactly, and how) to your question. Sorry!

From http://www.jdmhondaparts.com/engine_faq.htm#q15:

Q: I have an 88-91 civic/crx STD or DX model with Dual-Point Injection. Will my wiring or engine harness work on a DOHC VTEC engine?

A: Yes and No.
YES, as in you can retain your DX/STD wiring.
NO, as in the STD/DX engine harness is NOT plug n' play.
Dual-Point injection uses only 2 injectors, unlike Multi-Port injection, which is standard on 88-91 Si/HF models. Any Honda engine that has 4 or more injectors is known as multi-port injection. That means any DOHC VTEC or DOHC ZC engine is multi-port equipped.

You WILL need to rewire your car for multi-port (4 injectors) injection. We do no provide the How-To wiring information here on jdmhondaparts.com, but but we can link you to Honda-Hybrid's website which shows how to convert your 88-91 STD/DX civic/crx to multi-port injection by clicking here --->>

(original was -- http://hybrid.honda-perf.org/tech/4gdxtozc.html)

but try this:

Hope you find something here to be helpful.
