Default 92 Accord - Squealing Belt at Cold Startup!

I know it sounds stupid, but ever since I did my timing belt, I've had a belt that squeals at the first startup every day. Sometimes it will squeal the first time I accelerate from a stop after startup (more likely to do this with the AC on)...

I've tightened the belts several times...to the point that I can't see that as being the problem.

The belts that I'm used to dealing with (domestic V8's) are not as tight as I have these belts. Am I missing something stupid here?

Thanks

In my experience with the years from 90-93 ... it is most likely the PS belt. The reason I am saying this is because it has a longer spread between pulleys and tends to have to be a little tighter then a shorter spread belt. If you have the belts tight and still are hearing the sqeal at start-up ... you may need to replace them.

Another quick way to check and see which one it is:

Start the engine and open the hood. With a hose .. try spraying water on the belts (trying to isolate each one as you do) and have someone rev the engine up keeping it at a steady RPM (like in the 2000 range). The water will make the belt squeal if it is indeed loose.

Thanks for the tips...I'll try to figure out which one it is this weekend...

Both of the belts were replaced when I did the timing belt.

Did you replace the water pump when you changed your timing belt? New water pumps sometimes squeal after startup. Listen carefully and it should be more of a howl than a squeal if it's the water pump seal. Usually this goes away once the seal has had a chance to break in (this happened with my Civic two weekends ago). If it was one of the belts, you may have glazed it and have to replace it again.

if u bought cheap belts, that could be why, i my friend bought the cheap ones and his belt wouldn't shut up! he went back and bought a good one and problem fixed.
Honda belts are suppose to be very tight, alot tighter then the v6s or v8s

Yes, I replaced the water pump...but this is belt, no doubt...

and the belts are new Honda belts...

I messed with it last weekend. Pouring water on them didn't make either squeal. It squeals when I start it when it's been sitting for a few hours, but it's also started squealing when I'm accelerating with the AC on for the first few minutes after starting it. It also squealed while it was running in park when the AC compressor cycled on. So it probably is the alternator belt, correct? I guess it could be glazed...what a pain in the ***!

Thanks guys,
Hank
