d16 piston-c/r question.
any one know what the stock c/r for d16a1 pistons are?
i can get these pistons/rods that are 10.5:1. should i, they are used with NO rings. how much are they worth?
i would like to put them in a D16A6 with a Y7 head gasket and a A6 head that is milled 0.030, would the pistons hit the head? can i do this? or would it be to much of a pain in the a$$.
THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE

Don't mill your head. Use the Y8 headgasket, not the Y7. I've heard that A1 pistons in a D16A6 motor will increase the compression ratio approximately 1 point. <--- But I haven't seen any evidence to back this claim up.
But since you are using a D15 block, I really couldn't tell ya... I'm sure it will be okay.

a6 head 0.030 milled
d15 block
10.5:1 pistons
y8 gasket
d15 block
10.5:1 pistons
y8 gasket
d15 rods are 3mm shorter than a6 rods.
d15 block/crank
i wouldn't use the y8 gasket if the head is milled 30 thou.
i cant tell...i cant find enough info on the d15b2. ill look and get back to you.
Well if you want to put high-domed P29 (1988-1989 Integra) pistons with their +7.2cc dome in any 1.5L block then you will need 1.5L VTEC rods from either the JDM D15B VTEC motor or the USDM D15Z1 1992-1995 Vx motor because non-VTEC 1.5L rods place the 1.6L pistons too low to even yield respectable CR.
Stock D16A6 pistons have a negative dish on them, not a dome of any sort. I think the dish is like -1.3cc or so.
To answer the question, aftermarket pistons that are supposed to yield 10.5:1 CR in a D16A6 will still not be as high of CR as the 1988-1989 Integra P29 pistons because those alone raise the CR over 10.5:1 for sure in an otherwise stock D16A6.
I'll link a huge D build-up thread that I posted because I'm currently building an 11.8:1 CR D16A6 with P29 pistons and it has some great CR charts and calculators in it.

1988-1989 Integra P29 pistons will look like this in a D16A6 or D15 with the right 1.5L VTEC rods:

As for buying aftermarket rods/pistons for a 1.6L for your 1.5L, I would not. You could find a good D16A6 block and then do it that way, but the CR will still be not as good as these P29 units from Acura.
You could always go apeshit and buy those rods/pistons and get a D16A6 block and then find a D16Z6 1992-1995 VTEC head and pop that bitch on there for over 11:1 CR easily with no mill.

Here's that link to my D16A6 build-up:

damn i love you guys!!!
ok, well here is the thing:
i have a 90 crx SI. thus haveing a stock d16a6.
i bought a extra motor, that has a d15 block and a a6 head, the head is milled .030. the d15 block witha stock a6 head is higher c/r alone, and witha milled head it shouold be a lot higher. so i was thing, with either the piston in th epicture or A1 pistons from a 88-89 integra i should be really in the C/R. right?
after market pistons are stronger right? and better right? woundnt i want after market more the the stock A1 pistons. i think A1 is p29 right?
so i was hoping to be around 11.5:1 c/r with that set up. if i have to use a my stock head, the non milled one, that is fine. just would like to have the 11.5:1 c/r if not higher... but i dont want to hit the head, and i would like for it to stay pretty cheap.
thank you guys so much...
if i dont get these pistons i will get the A1 88-89 integra pistons [p29?] ones. unless you think they would be better then the set up in the picture. in the picture its aries pistons and crower rods... they were used for a little while and trying to get them for 350. what do you think?
tell me what to do
haha! thanx!

i would go with the forged pistons and crower rods, BUT i don't know what your cr would be...you have too many variables in there for me.
and yes 88-89 teg pistons are p29.

ok, say i just put them in my stcok d16a6 no mill or nothing, and add a y8 gasket? any idea on that?
or say it was in a d16 block with the .030 milled head and y8 gasket.
thats whit the aries pistons and crower rods.
i just dont want it to hit my head.
how the fu*k do people fun 16:1 c/r and ****??? damn, they must gring and weld **** weird!!!

P29 pistons with the 1996-2000 EX headgasket with an otherwise stock D16A6 head will only yield about 11.0 CR already according to the specs found on:
http://www.muller.net/sonny/crx/pistons/crchart.gif
Punched into the CR calculator found on:
http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/c...c/compcalc.php
Those A6 aftermarket pistons won't be anywhere near that IMO.
If you used that milled .030 head the CR would be around 12:1 according to both of those sources with P29 pistons and the D16Y8 head gasket. To throw your mill into the mix simply subtract it from the head gasket thickness. The D16Y8 head gasket is .037 thick, so if you have the head milled .030 off then simply punch in .07 for the gasket thickness.
Makes sense?

BTW:
Those rods are certainly worth grabbing though. Hell I'd take the rods and pistons and boost on them - for real.
I'd add in a thicker metal head gasket from the likes of Cometic and make sure there was no mill, and I'd have it tuned well and it would be bad-***.
People boost GS-R and B16A motors with 10:1-10.6:1 CR all day long, so the CR from those pistons with a thicker head gasket should be pretty safe with tuning...and it would make killer power.

yeah thats what a friend was telling me. that i should boost the pistons. but i dont really have the money for that. its either build a block/head up A LITTLE or go turbo on stock motor... so i thought i would build a motor make it last longer and still pretty fast.
well i called the acura dealer parts thing over here, and its 60.98 per piston and 155.51 per rod. so i was like "fu*k that" that is way to much money, so i am HOPING and PRAYing to pick up the pistons and rods from that guy...
so i guess from you GREAT HELP with the after market pistons and rods i should be close to 11.5:1 c/r with the milled head, the y8 h/g and the d16 or d15 blcok. so i guess that is good.
one more question.
say i was to put in just p29 pistons in my stock a6 motor, what would that C/R be?
or can you tell me what size pistons those aries pistons i want to buy are?

As far as the rods go, youkeep the D16A6 rods. No need to buy the Integra rods as the P29 pistons fit right onto the D16A6 rods.
yeah, i am a little slow, i realized that after i wrote the above
.
did i ever tell you how cool you are!!! to just keep writing back. you are a very nice guy, if i can ever do anything for you, please let me know.
you think its ok to run stock rods the old ones with 130xxx miles on them, with the new pistons?
also if i was to use the d15 block i could not use the rods that come with the aftermarket pistons would i?
and if i used p29 pistons, in a d15 block i would have to use d15 rods right?
THANX!!! feel free to just stop replying any time you get sick of me. i can ask stupid questions all day long
