Default Toyo Proxes RA-1's tread life

Can anyone comment on the tread life of them? I have a friend that has a couple of sets and I want to pick a set up for AutoX from him. Can you take them down pretty low and have them still be sticky? Can you take them down to the cords??

Thanks. If anyone can post some pics that would be helpful.

Life? Longer than you could imagine.

Stickiness? Run'em til they cord.

So far we've got 6 total races on 6 Toyos (being rotated around) with one of them being a 1.45 hr endurance race plus a couple of test days and all the regular practice and qualifying sessions in between. The tires don't even look to be half way worn yet. for the RA1s long life and consistency and for their speed also. So I don't think it will be hard to reach our goal of running this whole year on six tires.

I don't have any autox specific feedback though. I can only imagine that they would be good.

We ran the 12 Hours of Thunderhill on five tires shaved to 4/32". The back two still had a little life in them as did the right front that we changed @ hour 7. The left front, which was never changed, was corded.

This has been posted on here any number of times, but for autocross the short of it is that they will be slow at first and get faster until they cord. You may choose to shave them to 3 or 4/32 to avoid this slow period. We ran then un-shaven and with 225/50 on 15x6 wheels got ~140 runs out of a set, rotating often. Probably get more from a car that can get camber (ours was in GS at the time). This is compared to ~110 runs out of Kumhos. Mainly on asphalt, sometimes on rough concrete.

The life of RA-1's is actually measured in geological eras.

For example, the ones purchased in the paleolithic era are wearing out this year.

I'm still running last year's Toyos... to put that in perspective, they now have 31 days on track on them, 6 days of which were racing. I'll be running them again this weekend at CMP.

I Toyos!

How many track days do you think you could get out of these? And how crucial is camber to their life?

There is still ghost tread left on them, so I'm hoping to get at least half the season out of them (10-12 days). As far as my experience goes though, one has to remember I drive Miatas which are balanced, and weigh about 10 lbs. Not sure the comparison really transfers to a nose heavy Honda.

I'm looking to pick up a set for HPDE's after I done with my Azenis. Are the 205 RA-1's as wide as the 205 Azenis? I'd like to put on the 225-50-15 RA-1's but I'm not sure I could fit them on my EK. ???

I need to replace my T1-S soon. Since so many people like the wear on RA-1s, maybe I'll try running them as double duty street/track tyres *shrugs*

No, the 205 Azenis is really a 215. I have a friend who tried to put some 225 T1-S's on his Teg and needed to roll the fenders. So, I would stick with the 205\50
