help! huge problem with gf's accord
My gf's car is acting up so weird. Can't figure out what's going on. We took it to the shop and spent about 200 bucks are parts but the problem still exists. The mechanics can't figure it out. And this mechanic is a relative too.
When starting the car, right when it's turned on, it revs from 1k rpm to 3k rpm and back to 1k rpms by itself. It's like the engine has a mind of its own. When driving and coming to a stop light, I brake, but when I release it pulls forward by itself as if I stomped on the gas pedal. She almost got into an accident this way. She also got pulled over by the po po's for passing the white line on a red light. She brakes, but the car pulls her forward.
What can this be? Any recommendations for good shops around the 626 area?
thx

I don't know if this applies to your car, but it happened on my 90 teg
On my car, there is a thermo idle control valve located on the tb. Coolant flows through it and continues to the idle air control valve on the back of the manifold. The thermo valve is controlled by a wax element that heats up as the car heats up and closes the valve by expanding. The iacv is controlled by the ecu based on sensor inputs.
Anyways...on the thermo valve, the wax element is put inside along with the valve attached to it, then a plastic screw is screwed into the end of the assembly to hold everything in place. On mine, the plastic screw backed out (at least 10 turns) and allowed air to get past the ball valve. Just taking a phillips screwdriver and turning it back in solved the problem.
