Need serious help. Major Problem.
I have a 1995 LS with 89k miles on it that I use as my daily driver. The only aspect of the car that has been modified is the suspension, mainly because it is an automatic and it will never be fast. My problem is:
Today I left my house and everything was running fine. I make a stop, get back in my car and leave. Everything is still fine. I make another stop, come back to my car and start it up. When I go to put it into drive the shift lock wont release. This has happened to me before, so I check all the various things that could cause it to stay locked (steering wheel wasnt locked, brake was depressed, foot was off gas, ebrake was on, car was running). Nothing would cause the shift lock to disengage. So I put my key in the shift lock release, thinking that maybe it needed some kind of "reset" or something. It worked, but I get the same problem everytime now. My car is stuck in park unless I put my key in the shift lock release on the shifter. I don't want to have to do this EVERY time I start my car.
Now I'm no moron, I work as a mechanic at a shop and got the advice of my fellow employees and we couldn't see anything. I took the shift assembly apart and can't "see" anything wrong. If anyone can provide any help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton.

sounds like some kind of electrical problem...like a sensor.
when you press the brake pedal it should disengage the lock...I'd crack open the Helms and go over that.

I don't remember exactly where. I used to have thousands of various Integra pictures. I resized this one, because I thought it was stylin'.
Sorry.
Sorry.
Check your fuses. Are your brake lights still working? Your brake lights may be on the same hot line as your shift lease - safety reasons. Check it and get back to us.

i can't recall where i herd this from.. but i think one of my homies can't remember who eitehr haha.. said that their gf spilled coke on the shifter and that one of the shift lock mechanisms was sticky cuz of hte residue causing it to stick. dunno if that is tru or helps but maybe something to consider.
i have read of this same problem several times on the internet from different people. Unfortunately, i got a stick so i never read till the end. This isnt much help, but if it makes you feel better... your not alone.
Thanks for the help guys. I will check my lights/fuses to see if that turns up anything. As embarassed as I am to admit it, the Coke (Mountain Dew in my case) suggestion might be a possibility too.
I'm assuming this is an automatic teg? I had the same problem, the car wouldn't give my key back, so I had to take the spare and leave the key in the ignition for a few days... I tried EVERYTHING, and I own a helms too. Apparently one day (3 days after this started) I went to turn my car off, and the key funally turned all the way, thus giving my key back..... its possible the same will happen to you. If not the spring in the ignition could be broken or miss-aligned, in which case you would have to replace the whole thing
