I want to basically do this same thing with my car. I have selected the car with the lasso tool. BUt how in the hell do I just get the background B&W? I am using PS6. Thanks for the help

 

make a copy of your selection to a new layer then change the background layer to black and white. just dont move the car layer so it will line up with the car in the background.

 

Just put the car on a new layer, and on the background layer go Image|Adjustmenst|Hue/Saturation and bring the Hue and Saturation all the way down.

 

I tried that but for some reason, it's also converting the layer into b&W. I wish I was better at PS. Thanks, anybody else have an idea?

 

an easier way...select your car...then select the INVERSE of that (which is the background) and just use desaturate. viola!

 

i just freehand/magnetic lasso around the car, select -> inverse, color -> desaturate

dumb question, where's the desaturate located?

call me crazy, but that looks like a gti to me. mom has an 03 silver 1.8T. fun car, but not one of my favorites for anything other than commuter. e-throttle sucks...makes the tiny turbo feel like a t3/t4. still a cool car, though.

i tried this black and white thing with a few bmx photos, but it looks kinda bad with all the color still showing through behind the spokes. anybody got ideas on how to fix that? i can post a picture if you need it.

 

hold down shift with the lasso tool selected, it'll add to your current selection, alt subtracts, i think those are the shortcut keys..bad memory when its not in front of me
