oh crap....knock knock...whos there...i dont know....
well....my baby is not feeling well. about a day or two ago, i let my roomate borrow my car. last night when i was driving her, i ran her hard through each gear. pretty normal for me to do that. however, when i stopped, left the light and hit about 3k, i heard some pretty noticeable knocking. sounded like my roomates car before it seized on him a week later.
when i crank her up, you hear the knocking. anytime im between 3-4k, even when im off the gas, you hear it.
how should i start narrowing down all the possibilities?
your help is appreciated...

sounds exactly like what happened to mine, i spun the bearing, all of sudden you will notice a big power loss, and if you keep driving it, it will seize, mine did, snapped Rod1 sent the piston through the cylinder wall, bent the crank...good stuff
as long as it's just a rod bearing, then it'll cost you a crank, and a rod.
If your roomate dogged on it with low oil, then he's what caused it to go.
The head has to come off, the rods and pistons have to come out the top, the crank comes out the bottom. You'll go ahead and put new rings on it while it's out.
You can get a crank for $100-$300, I can probably find you a set of Si rods for pretty cheap, if not free. Then you need to have everything reassembled.
Total?
Do it yourself: around $500
Pay someone: Around $1000-$1500.

just wanted you to know what else you're looking at:
new bearings, all new seals, new head gasket.
if the timing belt is old, then do that and the tensioner and water pump, with the oil seal (since it's an H23)
If you've ever wanted an H22A swap, now would be the time.
