Default protecting the Apexi N1

ok, i just received my Apexi N1 catback from fellow ht member TegTuner. he used it for about 5 months on his 00 LS and it is in great shape, zero rust and only a couple scrapes on the resonator. he lives in AZ so has no issue with rust, i howver live in Canada and am petrified of rust, especially since my 2 year old 5zigen fireball catback exhaust has rusted to **** and has a giant hole in the back of the muffler where the piping connects.

I really want to keep this exhaust in good shape and not have to replace it with another aftermarket exhaust again, so i recently purchased some 1200degree high heat black paint and am going to paint the piping (which is made out of mild steel, and will rust). I am hoping that this will prevent rust entirely, but am wondering if anyone else has any better suggestions for the war against rust. please let me know what you think of my idea, and add your own if you have any better suggestions.

also, since the N1 hangs very low, i am thinking about welding on a small skid plate on the bottom at the back of the muffler made from stainless steel, which will protect the muffler from scratches, dents etc. yay or nay?

do you have any empirical knowlege of this, or are you just tossing out an untested statement?

isn't the piping coated with somthing to prevent rust, i have the n1 here in cali and have no problems with rust, but i do have problems with dips becuase the thing hangs so darn low!, i don't think you need to worry about the canister its sus 304 stainless steel.

the canister part is fine, since it's stainless steel, but it's the piping that 's made from mild steel that's worrying me..... you cali people don't get rust, but up in canada where the city employees salt the **** out of the road 8 months of the year, rust is a REAL problem... i think that a few layers of high heat paint on the piping should help the prevent rust..... even though the N1 does have a light coating of it's own designed to fight rust.....
