Default what width wheel for racing slicks

I'm thinking I'd like to try out "real" race tires, I meen Goodyear or Hoosier slicks, not the DOT tires.

I assume all of these tires are the cantelevered design, so what tire would be desirable for a 2300 lb car and what size rim does it need to go on?

Thanks,

Scott

I'm going to try out some 23x9x15 Goodyear slicks this weekend. I think they're mounted on 15x7 wheels. In the past I've run on 20x9.5x13 on 13x7 wheels.

Thanks...

Just looked at Hoosier's website and they specify about a 7" wide wheel for all the 9" wide slics, that's probably the ticket then.

Next question, do the slicks like a wider tire? It looks like a 13x8 might be easier to come by.

Cantalevered tires typically have less rim width dimensional tolerence than street radials - they are designed for a specific wheel width and you will want to find out from the manufacturer what width(s) are acceptable.

The Hoosier website will give this info. For example the 20/9.5-13's on my Civic are on 7's; in DP or Road Race FP trim on 6's I would run 20/8-13's.

Scott, I assume this is for your dinosaur tech RWD Celica? What you got for spring rate in that? If it is enought i would suggest something like 23/9.5-15's on 7's.

Yep it is. 8's get a six, but will fit on a 5.

I just got my new ones yesturday. http://www.midatlanticmotorsport.com
Tom will tell you the compound is dependent on car weight, but sent me
r25a all around. Eh, last year I ran r35 fronts, but didn't use them up completely.
This is in a ~1725 pound civic. (i know, heavy...)

Yeah it's for the old celica (I'm not quite legal in SM anymore, I removed the stereo, so E-Mod it might be).

Right now I'm running 350 lb springs up front with a 24mm (stock) sway bar, and 225 lb springs in the rear with no sway bar.

I have a set of 500 lb springs for the front if needed, and can order any rate I want for the rear for about $90 per pair (Afco circle track springs), if I can find the rates I want used, then I save a few bucks. Too bad the circle track guys tend not to sell springs in matched pairs.
