Why is my car dying on me?
My car has been sitting over the winter months and I try to start it at least every week and let it warm up to normal operating temperature.
I started my car yesterday and everything was as normal, although I have been getting some weird readings from my cheapo autometer AF gauge - sometimes it sticks at rich at idle, sometimes no lights turn on at all. I figured this may have had something to do with a slightly fouled O2 sensor, as my car runs very rich at idle due to my cams. My plugs are absolutely black because I have been letting it idle all winter long, usually they are a tan colour after normal driving. My car generally idles slightly rough as it is due to my cams, but while driving, although at stoplights my rpms get fairly low sometimes, the car never dies on me.
After my car warmed up, I tapped the gas a few times and once the revs dropped back down, they got extremely low and the car died. The same thing happened to me after I installed my cams during the recomended 20 minutes at 2000 rpm break-in period, but once I reset the ecu and drove the car everything was as normal.
I'm hoping another ecu resetting will fix this problem, but does anyone have any ideas why this is happening? Has this happened to anyone here?
I've checked my fuel pressure and it's fine. Motor is a b18a, stock bottom end, bit of headwork, safc (all settings at zero now because of this problem), erick's ecu, boltons, colt cams (slightly more aggressive than crower 403's).
I'd appreciate any suggestions! As for now I'm going to try resetting the ecu and changing the plugs.
Thanks,
Adam

I'm no expert on this but if your plugs are black then maybe they arent working as well as they should. You might not be getting good enough sparks and that could cause your motor to die. Definately replace them and see what happens.
