Cold air intakes for '01 civic manual/auto?
sorry if this sounds like a dumb question. i'm asking b/c i dont know much about the 2001+ chassis civics. i have a friend with a 01 civic EX 4dr auto. he wants to get a cold air intake but the one he found was made for a manual trans. will it fit?
thanks in advance.

Sorry I can't help in your question, but it would be better if you put this in the Civic EG+ forum because this forum is only RSXs and 02+ Civic Si Hatches. There are more 01+ civic (sedan/coupe) owners there and you would get better feedback.
On the Automatics for '00, the difference was that the lack of a crankcase breather going back into the intake. SO if thats the case on the new ones, too, a small crankcase filter or some other plug should make the "manual" intake's hole plug up.
be sure to check out procarparts.com, they have a big vairety of "generic" and name brand intakes for the 01's.
If he's a DIY'er, just get a K&N drop-in and find a way to port some colder air to the stock intake nozzle. Then you wont lose some of the low-end torque from the auto.
Another product is the Venom400, which is like the ebay "$5 resistor" on the intake temp sensor that will trick the car into a slightly more aggressive fuel-air ratio, but it will ease off as the rpms go up to avoid detonation, always maintaining the highest possible.
My wife has an Auto EK hatch, and from what I've found, the Auto tranny is the same for an EX, so a mini-me style head swap or EX drop-in would be ok, but too much more HP would cause heat problems that would kill the transmission.
