Question about painting wheels
Ok i got a set of HX wheels. I wanna paint them Flat Black... My question is i scuffed the rims up with some light grit sand paper... Now before i spray the flat black should i spray a coat of primer before spraying the flat black???? Please post posative comments.. thank you
I would say just scuff them up alittle. There was a good post about this awhile back. I would think primer would just make it alittle more easy to flake off cause the more layers of paint you add, the worse its gonna stick. I would not use primer. Thats just me.
he already
Since they r already scuffed, I would primer them,,,to fill the scuffs, then paint them.

i recently worked at a steel shop painting beams....we always used primer before painting...
the paint needs a base to set on
if you do use primer spray a light coat and wait till the primer is a little tackey...then paint them, the paint will work better that way
or you could just go get them powdercoated somewhere
maybe a little more expensive but it'll last WAY longer

powder coat them. it may cost about 100-150, but it's worth the money. I just had a set of niche wheels coated white. they look great, won't fade as bad, chip as easy as paint. powder coating is about 200 times "stronger" than paint because it's baked on.

I agree, Powder coat them. Powder coating is cheap and pretty much bullet proof. If you drive in the winter they will hold up really well against the elements. If you have them powder coated black you can also get them powder coated clear over it which I think would look really nice.

I have painted a few sets of rims in the past and I've noticed that you will have the best resault if you spray Bull Dog : Adhiesion Promotor <---(sp) to the wheel before applying paint. The promotor will make the paint "bond" much better to the metal!
Good luck with everything.
