Default Harness bar question in Integra.

Ok well as i was racing this weekend at fed ex i noticed a BMW that had his 5 pt harness mounted in the rear to the floor where the bolts were.

Now my question is, has anyone seen or heard of a harness bar that mounts from the D ring on the left to the D ring on the right in the rear seat area. U know the part that is exposed when your seats are down. It looks like a solid mounting point to me.

Would it be ok if ihad a snap in harness and u snap both shouldeer straps to the D ring?? Its going to be just for autoX. Thanks

get this, kicks ***, doubles as a c-pillar bar. Strong as hell (242) and you can mount your camera to it. Get the GB-3, let me know i will post a pic in my car for you...

do you have rear upper strut bar?

Could you possibly mount it to that?

Is that safe at all?
I wouldn't trust my life to a little bar like that.
Granted there aren't many things to hit at auto-x...but well, sometimes there are.

Edit: just noticed who I quoted...yeah, flower boxes
I wouldn't mount to a STB...just incase

my harness bar is exactlly like the pic posted (except in an R). Another option is this manufacturer who makes a stainless kit for Integras (pics not on thier website, but they sell it). It actually mounts to the front shoulder harness points so it doesnt get in the way of the rear seats. take a look, here is a link:

About the c-pillar bar :
I'm assuming for solo purposes that this not legal for Street Prepared? Because of the chasis reinforcement potential of the bar?

the stock rules say a harness bar may be installed, but "may serve no other purpose." for the mounting to be secure enough to not tear out from a tightly fastened harness, it could feasibly be stiffening the chassis. my bar isn't triangulated, nor does it have any additional mounting points beyond the two c-pillar attachment points. i think, with a specific rule making harness bars legal, they can't turn around and use whatever side benefits might be inherent to them as justification for disallowing them. however, a bar with "legs" that extend to the floor or one that has bars that reach to the rear, imo, could be protested since those legs are not necessary for harness mounting, and could serve another purpose.

just my $0.02.

the speedware bar is very expensive, $400 shipped, BUT i ordered one. they sent me the wrong one, so now i await the new bars arrival. i am removing my autopower in favor of the bar. say what you want, but the car will be only autocrossed now, so there is no need for a 60lb rollbar.

Sure they can! I just need to stay legal so this is a concern of mine. especially with shifty RacerMike guy just waiting to protest me in petersburg!

I guess I'll just get the word from the man... Howard Duncan ... unless someone does know for certain the legality of the harness bar (c pillar mount). That'll also keep punk kids out of my back seat!

...and where did you get that bar?

Wuss, I thought you were a REAL racer...

This seems like the best idea to me.

I've had the SpeedWare bar for a few years. Nice piece of equipment.

Howard Ducan has specifically said this type of harness bar is legal, specifically ones designed just like the Speedware bar I have posted above. With out any kind of cross support, the bar can't really provide any structure rigidity. Think about where the forces are, they're not coming from the floor up to the b-pillar mounts, they would be coming from a twisting of the chassis while turning. The legs won't do anything to stop twisting. You'll also see that the legs are connected using ball joints, which would also twist with the car.

So why have legs, then? The legs prevent the bar from rotating in the event of an accident.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Stable Energies bar is a "guide" bar and not a mounting point. The Speedware bar is specifically designed for direct harness mounting.

There is a current post in the Integra R forum about C pillar bars made by a Japanese company called J's Racing.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=457514

Here is a link to an article showing it's installation:

http://www.hogens.com/car/default.ph...cing/index.php

The Speedware B-pillar bar won't fit if you have a roll bar in your car. If that is the case - maybe the C-pillar bar would be a better choice.

True enough. But if you've got a roll bar, why not just get a harness bar for the roll bar. Both autopower and kirk make them. The autopower claims to be removable, but from what I've heard, it's not very easy.

Ok well as i was racing this weekend at fed ex i noticed a BMW that had his 5 pt harness mounted in the rear to the floor where the bolts were.
That's bad. Compresses your spine if you're in an accident.

Thanks
You don't mean the brackets the seats snap on to when in the upright position, do you? These are strong, as it has to support the seat, but not strong enough to hold you in in an impact.

Are referring more to the rear seatbelt shoulder mounts? That would be a good place to mount it, as that area is specifically engineered to hold a person in place in an accident.

I know of someone who replaced the bolt for the driver's side rear shoulder mount with an eye hook and then uses harness belts with clamps to connect to that eye hook when autocrossing. It's not ideal, but it gives you the proper angle for the belts and will hold you in an accident. For autocross, it'll be fine, but the belts won't be directly behind you, so there will be a bit of a weird angle. Wouldn't recommend it for track driving.

thanks shmeek for answerin my question, No one else did. those snaps that the seat clicks on is solid for autoX but what about a bar that bolts between the left and right one, it would be better. I might just use a 5 pt and snap both rears to the rear seat thing. it would work.. for autoX atleast
