Default D-series tranny rebuild kit

First, let me say AAMCO can suck my left nut. I went in for a quote and "external inspection" which is basically their way of getting $40 out of you whether or not you ever come back. The "external check" consisted of a 3 minute test drive after which I was told "it needs to be rebuilt". NO ****, WHY DO YOU THINK I'M HERE??!!!

Anywho, they want $595 for labor plus $300 in parts for a bearing and syncho kit. I remember reading a thread where someone mentioned rebuild kits for $150. Anyone know where that is?

Is $595 a good price for labor? Should I just drive my car into the ground and sell it as a shell in a year? The tranny doesn't grind or anything, its just noisy and has been for at least a year. If I can get another year out of it I would be happy (sell it and buy an M2 Miata, most likely). I love my Si, but the money the car will require in the next year is making me think twice.

**** AAMCO. Don't let them near your car. Just buy a used tranny for $100. If you really want to rebuild yours, http://www.standardtransmission.com sells the syncro and bearing kit. I paid $175 for mine.

If you take the trans out yourself, labor should not exceed $300 dollars.

I asked what the labor would be if I pulled the trans myself and they said "we don't do bench jobs". ******* pisses me off they got my $40. Thanks for the link, though, that's what I was looking for.
