Default Accord Turbo Retailers

I'm looking at turboing my 94 Ex - but I havn't heard much about what kits people have used/ are using and where they found them (and archived search is still down). What can I really expect to pull out of a tuned FI Accord? One person has 275ish hp in their sig - is this usual or someone with some major skill?

I got my FMAX kit from mechasports.com. $3600 shipped. Customer service is pretty lack luster, but I think it had more to do with Turbonetics.

My sig is their kit without their fuel set up. I used a VAFC, 4:1 FMU, 255lh walbro, and 500 cc injectors.

The kit ships with a 9-10 psi spring and I got 238hp with it (from 143hp NA).

So what would be required for me to do to build up my engine in order to get the most out of the turbo kit? Are these little kits (8~10 psi) ok to run on a basically stock setup past I/H/E?

I ran 10 psi regularly on stock internals with no issues.

Cylinders looked great on the engine when I pulled it to put the sleeved engine in.

I would recommend tuning whatever you end up with.

i got my drag 4 kit on my 94 ex auto from dave shih, one of drag's distributors i guess... you can probably find him on ebay... don't even ask about customer service... if i could reach the ******* guy, i'd probably sell drag kits myself... anyway, i'm making 161.5 whp and 168.6 tq at 6 psi and 180.3 whp and 179.5 at 8 psi... stock motor using the vafc hack with dsm 440cc injectors... i was too chicken to try 10 psi so i'm staying at 8 psi daily for now and seeing if i can get a few more horsepower with a few other modifications...

again - I'll blame the lack of archived search - but what is the VAFC hack for turboing? One of my friends was telling me that the SAFC was the best for turbo kits.

Thanks for all the help that I've recieved on the tubro topic

An S-AFC is for fuel management. A V-AFC is for VTEC management. VTEC usually engages anywhere from 3000-4500 RPM. A turbo should spool somewhere in that area.

the afc "hack" isn't the best name really but that's what it's called i guess... i think there was a previous version of the hack dealing with complicated wiring but the newer version is more simple and better... the afc hack uses a vafc
(vtec) or safc (non-vtec although some people with vtec still get safc anyways so they don't mess with their vtec) and bigger injectors... 440cc injectors are recommended i believe although some other folks have used different sizes... you use the afc to trim the fuel from the big injectors to about -30 to 40% or so depending on your application and air/fuel ratio or it will run too rich... and if everything's installed and tuned right, the car should be boosting normally and run better than a fmu and missing link setup... the afc hack is the poor man's fuel management system... some people will recommend that you dish out more money for aem ems or hondata...

the whole technical part about how it works and why there isn't a check engine light-don't ask me... even after countless lectures from liam, the creator of the hack, i still can't explain it well to a shop or to other people... it works though...

yes vafc will run you 315 easy.. might as well put some extra dough in and get hondata, only runs you like 500ish or around there. for basic setup

If I went with either a VAFC or the stand alone AEM/Hondata/whatever - who or where would you recommend tuning this? What does the tuning cost on top of the turbo kit?

take it to a import performance shop in your area that has a dyno and preferrably a good reputation unless you got the necessary equipment and know what you're doing... the price of tuning varies but if i'm not mistaken, it's more expensive to tune a standalone than a vafc 'cause of how long it takes to tune...

a little off topic but has anyone custom made a turbo kit for their f22b1? just wondering since all the kits out there are a little expensive... i'm assuming that building my own kit will cost less. whatchuthink?

i think it'll cost less if most of the parts are used or from the junkyard... if you're buying all of the parts new to replicate a turbo kit, you're just looking at a big headache to come... if this is your first time entering the darkside, i would recommend that you save up for a kit... then down the road, do custom... 'cause if you plan on doing custom now, i can imagine you posting "ok, here's the list of parts i currently have... but where do i get these other parts and what else do i need..?" then your next post will be "ok, i've just installed this... but how do you install everything else..?" just kidding but i've seen it before...

thanks, SOHCitTOme... don't get me wrong, boonacka-there's a couple of folks in the forced induction forum with junkyard or cheaper turbo setups making nice *** numbers... i guess it depends on your knowledge of how a turbo system works and what parts are necessary and which can be interchangeable off another car...

thanks for the feedback guys. it's not a problem finding all the necessary parts, but the only major concern or headache i have is finding a turbo manifold for the f22b1. that itself might be more expensive than a used t25 turbo yanno. any experience or suggestions for the manifold? has anyone custom made one or custom makes manifolds for sale? the reason why i'm trying to avoid an already pre-fabricated kit is the price. i dont want to break the bank but i know its obviously gonna take some investment in order to have a properly tuned and fast street car. by the way, my friend just traded his S4 for the new Lancer EVO. damn i'm so jealous... anyways , do you think our f22b1's would ever be able to keep up ? =P i'm just jealous ... and hatin!
