Default difference between auto and manual motors???

I have found an LS motor for sale for pretty cheap. The only problem is that it has an automatic transmission. I was wondering if there is any difference in the actual motor. Does it have different cams, etc... If I use a manual B-series transimssion and a manual ECU would it be the same as having a manual motor?

so is there any difference between an auto B18B and a manual B18B????

I'm not to sure if the cam profiles for LS motors change between AT & MT B18B's, but all you need to do is get a MT B-series flywheel & clutch assembly, remove the AT tranny & clutch components, and apply to the engine.....presto 5speed LS motor.

I *think* there might be some slight changes with the IACV and/or throttlebody too.

will this have a substantial affect on performance?

possibly you'll have a problem with the iacv. i had a auto b18b motor, with manual tranny, and it never idled steady (cold) no matter what i did. i did only use a auto ecu. once it warmed though, it was ok. i think...when it was ls/vtec, it was ok with a manual p30. so with a five speed ecu, it'll probably be ok. to get rid of the idle bugs, i just covered up the two holes with a gasket for the iacv and left it plugged in...viola! i don't think the cams are different.

will this have a substantial affect on performance?
no.

One difference is in the intake manifold. Automatic LS motors have an EGR valve. But manual motors don't. This EGR valve mounts to the intake manifold. And the intake manifold incorporates the EGR plumbing. If you go with an automatic motor, get a manual transmission intake manifold.
