What ECU is used for the D15B 3 stage VTEC?
3 stage vtec? What are you talking about. A p06 is for the D15B7 but it doesn't run vtec. Maybe try a p28, I have heard that they can run sohc engines. A little more info on the engine would be great. Maybe then I can help you a little more. Thanks and God bless!
If it's the vx/z6 head combo/d15b jdm motor, I'd believe it would be the p28.
This is what runs the Z6.
If it is the 3 stage, (I think) like the HX {Ihatethat}, I'm sorry I don't know.
If that was any help.
D motors rule.

since the d15b goes through a couple diff stages woulnd't it require a diff ecu than the P28 etc, or just the same single wire hookup and the 2 vtec solenoids do the work after?
My friend bought this engine but im checking to see if he has the right ecu.

A Z6, seeing how a d15b is a VX d15 with a Z6 head.
I am not sure if the p28 would work... but I guess I will find out... just bolted a d15b head onto a friend's Y8 block... but the car won't start... might just be the ghetto rig distributor... but maybe not.
I figured the vtec was just controlled by the solenoid alone, but maybe the ecu delivers diff voltages at the diff rpm. The fuel map DOES lean the mixture out during the 2nd vtec stage.
BTW, I disagree that the d15b is better than the d16z6... for gas mileage, yeah, but what about the tq curve ? The 3 stage vtec might make about 130 hp, but lets face it... the d15 was designed with fuel economy in mind more than performance.

Well, I got the car to start with the right distributor housing. (Timing was waaay off before) This particular head is a d15b, but not from the EK3 which has the 3 stage vtec (as far as I can tell).
The combo is a Y8 block with a d15b head and Y8 Intake manifold. Running the stock computer for the Y8.
The car runs fine, smooth and vtec engages smoothly, but not very powerful. I still have the timing a tiny bit retarded for the first day or two (fresh head). After that, I will advance it and see/post how the performance goes.
There is a small header leak, so that will be fixed tomorrow as well.
As far as the actual 3 stage vtec version, I figure the dual solenoids would handle that duty....

i got this motor and i try my best to hear or feel vtec, but i'm not sure if its working because the motor feels kinda week. i thought because it had 130hp it would be a world of difference between it and what i originally had in my car the d15b7 which is 102hp.

The right ecu is the jdm P08 I dont think they made a usdm version of the ecu. I remember a while back somebody on this site had a few for sale but I dont remember who.
you dont need a chipped p28, a regular p28 will work as well. i know a couple people on honda tech that have this engine and have used just the p28
