Default Bigger TB am I loosing power

Sup everyone,
The other day I installed an Erick's Racing 68-66mm TB on my fully built B18C1. I'm currently running a Skunk2 IM. I believe the opening on the IM is 64mm. I know it would have been ideal for me to get a TB that matched the opening of the intake manifold, but I really like the way the Erick's Racing one looks, and I was told that the 2mm difference won't hinder performance. I haven't got my car tuned yet so I can't tell if I gained anything yet. I do know that when I have my stock axle back on, and I engage vtec in 4th gear, I feel like I'm loosing mad power. But when I have my full exhaust on, it feels better. I never had this problem when I had my stock TB on.

On a good note, it feels like the car has more power on the top end but just barely. If I am loosing midrange, will I be able to gain it back with good tuning???

If it helps, my mods are
OEM P30 pistons (11:5ish) stock bore
ARP rods/bolts
Micropolished balanced crank
Crower stage 3 cams
P&P head
Skunk2 IM
Greddy 4-2-1 header
Injen CAI

Previously, this engine put out 195whp. I'm hoping to bring that number to 200 with the new TB

Like you said, you didn't get it tuned yet.

Losing low-to-mid range power is a side affect of getting a larger TB. The larger diameter allows more air flow (and more power) at high RPM, but when operating in the lower rpm's, the flow velocity would be decreased, slightly lowering power.

On a side note, perhaps getting the IM manifold opening opened up a few more millimeters may smooth out the flow and make more power.

Ok... that explains a little, but should my car feel like it's hesitating when vtec kicks in in 4th gear? I mean it totally feels like my power band just drops. (This only happens when I have the stock muffler on)

Could that 2mm lip be causing the loss of midrange?

Just as a note, have you checked the sensors or what ever they are called on the TB?

It sounds like it has a bottle neck effect. Wide intake pipe, wide tb, stock intake manifold.

I would reset your ECU - the proper way. Then see what happens before you upgrade intake manifold...

hmmm... I'll try that. Do I need to reset the ECU even if I'm running a OBD1 P28 with a chipped Erick's Racing program?
