I need to replace the exhaust on my 91 civic DX. I'm thinking about getting APC, or a ractive. Do they all sound the same??? I want a nice deep tone, and not something that sounds like i just cut my exhaust off. Please help.
Thanks

In my humble opinion-get a Thermal. Then again I'm biased-that is all I've used on my Hondas. The CRX will get a race setup with suitable "cherry bomb" type muffer and resonator-but if the car were for the road then it too would be a Thermal equipped car. The exhaust is very smooth even on our 96 HB (sold). The trick is to get it with the "stealth cone". Other brands are very good and can be adapted to your car. Take a look at Borla; if done right even DynoMax and Magnaflow have units to replace the stock setup. No matter what aftermarket exhaust you get the sound level will be louder than stock.
I have DC sports on my 91 CRX, it is fairly deep (NO raspiness) and very quiet.... maybe too quiet? (at least it will never get me pulled over)
Just put a Magnaflow on my 91 CRX Si and I love it. Great sound, deep, throaty, not too loud. No resonator, just straight pipe from the cat back to the muffler in the stock (crosswise) location.

I've got a dynomax super-turbo on my hatch. its quite deep and has a raspy kinda sound to it. also, it sould almost stock at idle and lower rpm's. im happy with it
i have a flowmaster with crappy 2.25 piping...no cat...no resonator and its clamped on....sounds like crap but i think it will sound real good once i get it weldedwith a cat and resonator

i got the greddy sp, sounds good , looks good and has single wall tip. Performance wise i heard thermal is better but i don't think it would make that much difference between the 2. if any one know what the dyno differences please post up.

APC
Normally I would agree, but the APC axle back for the 88-91 civic sounds really good and is $200 bucks. So to answer your question the APC one sounds good and is the cheapest. If you have the money then consider going with something else, but i wouldn't spend all that money for a DC, Thermal, etc. just for the sake of having it. It doesn't sound any better than the APC one to me. Just my opinion, my girlfriend has one on her car it sounds really good. Quiet at low rpm's and deep and throaty when you romp it.

i would say Thermal or RS*R if you can find it...or just get a custom catback setup with a dynomax turbo muffler..mine cost me $180 installed on my car a long with carsound hi-flow cat, very very quiet no rasp and then just breaks loose when i hit that VTEC.
i have one from midas and it sounds better than my friend's N1 and it was bolt-on too ...save u install/welding money ..it was like 400 bux cdn so it's around 250 US
ask midas about it
