how can you tell visually if you need new rod bearings? They are as smooth as can be but where the two bearings meet on both sides the metal looks kinda worn but you cant fell any imperfections? what do you guys think? and do any of you guys know about how much new ones cost?
Bearings for a B-series block are about $10-11 each. Each rod journal needs two bears tops and bottom. If you aren't changing the rods and you didn't have any knocks, I always use the same bearings; they are worn to the crank journals. Check the clearance with a plasti gauge to ensure they aren't out of spec.

Try NAPA, also when you pick up a set of plastigaguge, make sure to check the clearance that you need, most domestic are not too tight with their clearance as hondas are..
Most hondas are .001 and up...so just make sure that it can check at least .001

Main are about .001 to .0017 ish, I usually try to get them around .0015. You can do this by mix and match the bearing on upper or lower side.
Rod is about the same clearances...
One thing that I usually do, if the clearance are off with after market bearings (ACl and etc), try to mix them up, most of the time you get them dead on center...
I had very good luck with both OEM and ACL's..

get the stock bearings from honda, i got mine for a little less than $ 100 and i am pretty sure that this was rod and main bearings.
the only info that you are going to need is the numbers on the crank, rods for the rod bearings. Also the number from the block usually located on the bottom were the oil pan is located.
If you do not have a Heins your best bet os to go and ask your honda dealer for help and have them make a copy out of the Heins, thats what they did for me.
i hope this will help, if you have anymore questions just PM me.

yup tin foil would be a very good sign
Plasti-guage is available at any local parts store. Manny Moe and Jack Off's, Advance Auto, Auto Zone, Checkers, Discount Etc.
Most places sell it in three colors.
Red - Green and Blue. It runs roughly 2-3 dollars for a strip. Two strips will be plenty.
As for re-using the old bearings... that's budget but it's a very smart investment. It's like putting a band-aid over a gunshot wound.
