Why do people hate B16a's???
alot of people complain about the lack of torque. I have my eyes set on a b18c w/lsd though. I drove a eg hb with a b16 and yes it does feel kinda torqueless like the d16 but still better then the d16 and that's why I have my sight on the b18c. you can't go wrong with a b18.
sorry didn't plan to make this a b18 vs. b16 debate

Lack of torque, no displacement gain, overpriced for what you get (well, all motor swaps are like that), won't pass smog if it's JDM (I think; where I live, they don't even inspect cars- haha!), overrated.
It's a nice motor for a gutted CRX HF or 3rd gen Civic/ 1st gen CRX, but too torqueless for an '88+ Civic. I guess lack of torque is the big thing. It only has three more ft lbs. of torque than a D16Z6. Whoopeee!

B16a are just fine. Some people have different priorities. Some people probably get a 1.8 just so they can say "i got a 1.8" Blah!
b16a's are fine. Just ask Andy Hope or Norman aubry

yea...the torque sucks, but can't go wrong with 100 hp per liter
anyways, this is soo frickin stupid. it's like asking, why don't some people drink tomato juice?
moving on. too bad you can't bump DOWN.
i hate to admit this but i got beat by a gutted *** cx with a b16...when i say gutted i mean gutted.this was with my b18c1 in my SI
beat me by about half a front fender but a "wining is wining"(my vin deasel inpression)
this is why i swapped my b18c1 into a cx weight is a killer when drivin a honda
i still wouldnt get a b16 though

i honestly don't mind them, it depends on what you plan on doing with it if just wana get some more hp and cruise around town there kewl but if you wana drag you gotta bump up
Maybe you should ponder something else, because the bottom line on your question is obvious.
They're weak. People don't "hate" the B16, people hate weak motors.

Drive a B16 and then a B18 and you will see why. Personally I don't really like the B16's that is why I have a B18C1 (soon to be built). Biggest issue like people said lack of torque. Allthough I don't think that the word torque and honda should be used in the same sentence. Anyways I love honda's no matter if my civic is torqueless.
You guys can suck it. The B18c is a step up from a B16.. thats why it cost more, but thats about the extent of it. Jesus, an H22 makes ur B18c1 seem puny and it doesnt cost that much more, but we dont hate. A B16 can put down some nice numbers, it just needs more work then its big brothers.

Yep, I have one in my crx and I love it. Its got alot of torque to me. And I can chirp the tires all the way up to 4th gear.
