Default my gauges don't illuminate at night need help

This has been buggin me for a while. My gauges, air conditioning control, rear defrost button, and cruise control won't stay illuminated. Its like a loose connection with the lights coming on then off then on then off again. My turn signals, seatbelt indicator, defrost button on/off indicator and other indicators work, its just not illuminating the back light so i can't see what button it is or can't see how fast i'm going. Any help would be appriciated and sorry for the long desciption.

From one nOOb to another. Yes, check your fuse and make sure that the connections to your gauge cluster are all connected. If that doesn't work check the grounding wire and see if the lights themselves work at all. You may have shorted something.
