O/T: Man I hate the imort scene!(-rant)
Still R-less, me and a friend went to a local street hangout Saturday where there are many imports. Talk about RICE, all over. The parking light full of clear tails, 18" and alluminum wings(these are getting more popular) I was sick! I did happen to see 2 black Type R's and they were in stock form thank goodness. One thing that did trip me out was an Integra LS? w/ an almuminum wing, with airbags going up and down through the parking lot. Everywhere I turn there is rice, I'm just so sick of it....Are clear tailights popular in Japan y Europe?

im sick of people calling and labeling stuff rice. just let people be what they want. that is how people are individuals, everyone has their own tastes...even if you think your is better than anothers, its not to be labeled something. im just tired of hearing the word rice for something other than what i eat!
why do you all think that clear tails are rice??? who the F#$K cares....i think cars with stickers on them look pretty cool if its done nice!!! i think the aluminum wings are pretty cool too.
i know this topic has also been discussed and beaten to death, but i again think that the term "rice" has been groosly over-used.
whats wrong with the imprt scene??? i think it has gotten alot better... clear tail lights----its just another product to customize the look of the individuals car.....whats wrong with that???
cant we all just get along??
i have a dream that one day all import racers and showers can live together without hate. i have a dream that one day we can all swap "clear tails" TOGETHER. maybe then i can drive my car and leave it outside without it getting hated on...

I agree. It's pretty sad how car "tuning" has degraded into useless (and almost always tacky) aesthetic mods.
I've gone to a few little rice-fests and it's pretty funny, actually. It's bordering on entertainment. How many laughs can you pack into half an hour?
I enjoy my time at the autox events much more, all the people there are interested in going faster and improving their skills, and if it looks OK too then that's just gravy. Stripped out, beat up CRX's that can outrun a Vette are cool.

Try not to HATE. Hating sucks and haters suck too.
Your observations of the "rice" scene as you put it are just young kids with a lot of enthusiasm for their cars and are showing off a bit for their friends. My question to you is how is this different from the Harley Davidson scene, domestic scene or (god help us) the NRA scene????
You need to have a smoke and chill out man. Different strokes for different folks.

I think I see where he is comming from, the guys who run around with a big exhasut and 20 pounds of stickers with a wing in the back capable of creating enough down force to keep and F16 on the ground at 600mph make a bad example for the true import enthusiest, It sucks when your talking to another car guy and you say "I drive and Acura Integra Type R", if he's not really into imports what is the first thing he thinks.......He sees a 4 door civic blasting through the walmart parking lot at 50mph with a 6 foot wing on it, the fact of the matter is, true car enthusiest and resposible drivers would never been seen in a "rice" or ricey car, the demogrphic for this type or vehicle is the 16-20 year old guy trying to show off that doesn't know $hit about cars, you show me one autoX'r that drives a car like the forementioned one and I wil stand corrected.
Dave....not hateing just stateing

"and you say "I drive and Acura Integra Type R", if he's not really into imports what is the first thing he thinks......."
It also doesn't help that every civic, 4-door gsr, and neon have "type-r" stickers. Whats with that? I just saw an accord with a type-r sticker on it the other day. Its embarsing...

wheels hardly qualify for rice, however why did you put 18's on an R? it can only hurt the performance, and make the already bumpy ride even worse?
i laugh when you guys talk about racers = not rice = autoxers. i see plenty of body kit show cars autoxing. thats the cheapest way a show car can race. the other hand a true for real racecar runs on a real track. you dont see show car there now do you. i think not!
You know the first few times I saw a type R sticker on another Honda I was kinda like "cool, its shows he/she respects/envys or what have you the ITR" now I am like damn, another Dodge Caravan Type R, I thought those were limited?

I just ignore everything around me these days. Otherwise, everywhere I look it's clear-corners and 17"s on a stock ride height w/ farting coffee-can exhausts.

When I sid AutoX'r I should have clarified by saying and AutoX'r who had a clue what the hell he was doing, unlike the guy in the Silver Y2K TL a month ago at Deanza college, had 18's, lowered and a body kit, he hit more cones than I have ever seen, and made a c omplete *** of himself, anyone else here on the board see this guy? I will admit it is great fun watching these guys.

I've seen a few cars with bodykits SHOW UP to the AutoX, but they must think it's a car show. All they do is watch.

What is the definition of a true import enthusiast? It is completely subjective. I too am getting sick of hearing this rice business. Did any of j00 ever think that, of all the imports that are hooked up, only a very few of them (us) are on these boards. Where would j00 have determined that altezzas were rice had people here not ingrained the thought into j00r mind? As much as the few of us may be performance only oriented, the majority of people out there enjoy altezzas, big wings, etc........Its useless to even attempt to devalue their work, b/c to everyone else, its cool.

With Imports, the riceboys make the true import tuners and racers look like all the rest of the rice crap out there. The NRA stands for something--a Harley stands for something. Imports are starting to stand for something too; and what that something is--well, it isn't good because it's purely show, fart-tip pipes and clear taillights. This was the point of the original post.
