Default Carsound catalytic converter smells and it's brand new!

Is it normal for a brand new catalytic converter to smell a little bit, or is this a result of not being tuned yet?

new ones usually smell because there new and havent been heated up yet,the smell will eventually fade away.

if you're not tuned and running really rich you're going to ruin that brand new cat. if the cat has to burn too much unburned fuel, it will overheat and melt.
