Default B16 trans Questions

Whats the transmission code for a B16 cable tranny, and also the transmission code for the B16 Hydro tranny?

There is a guy i met tonight that had a B16 in his 93 EX, and he says its a 1st gen B16?.... now my friend needs a b16 head for LS/Vtec, and i need a tigher geard transmission (i have LS on my B20Vtec right now) hers parting out the engine, so we both win. but if its a 1st gen B16, then the trans would be cable... but he claims its a hydro.

so how can i tell the cable and hydro apart?

ALSO, the casing to the trans broke when he got in an accedent, (the mount tore a hole in the casing when he crashed)

How much will THAT cost to fix, or... can i use my LS casing?

thanks

The b16a1 cable tranny I believe comes usually with the S1 tranny. There is also the Y1 and YS1 as well but I haven't heard much of them. I know one of the latters usually is equipped with LSD as well.

Anyways, the guy u met IMO doesn't know what he's talking about. First off, only a fool would swap in the b16a1 into a g5 civ (less power, older, and u gotta change up the tranny). U can tell whether it's hydro or cable right at the tranny. The cable is really noticeable. Anyways, if he said it's hydro then most likely it's the B16A2. He's probably has not heard of the JDM B16A1 then I suppose. I think either way though u can still take the head (I think?)

A cable tranny will have an actual cable and a lever at the front of the tranny, just under the battery on the 88-91 civics. A hydro tranny will have a funcky looking apparatus, I think called a slave cylinder, in the same location.
