anyone autocrossed on yoko av100
Thinking of picking up a set of these due to their good wear, decent grip, and cheap price. Anyone seen time at scca with these?? Wondering how they do..
If you're refering to the AVS ES100, I know a fella that ran them last year. He thought they were OK, but nothing special. He ditched them for Azenis this year.
I think the azenis will be better when it comes to scca, but the avs es100 will have a better wear for everyday driving..I dont autocross that much just wanted to see how they fare..
I had them (the ES100's) on my GTi last summer, I liked them, and treadwear was not bad at all. They were pretty grippy, but definitely not as much as my Falkens. They weren't bad in the rain either if that's an issue with you.
I have them and I love them. I just finished 2nd at the SEDiv event with them. Lost to Doug Allen in his 89 civic si on falkens by about .04 seconds. You can still drive them fast even if they aren't the fastest tire out there.

You can drive nearly any tire fast if they arent the fastest tire. It really is all in the driver and being smooth.
That said, the azenis can be driven much like an r-tire where many other street tires just simply cannot.

ran the es100's last month on an LS. New to the autox scene, but finished 3rd. The tires are daily drivers and have great traction. Are excellent for water evacuation and DO NOT hydroplane, unless you're doing 85. The best thing I can say is that the yoko's have a distinct break away point. Like everyone else says "It's the driver's skills, not the tires!"
i went from Azenis to ES100. I really miss the azenis.
If I had to choose again, i would pick the azenis anyday. Plus the azenis are a bit cheaper.

I use the ES100 as my daily driver tire. It's a good all around high-performance street tire. I'd compare them to be as good as the old reliable AVS Intermediate, with better wet weather traction. I've purchased a seperate set of wheels/tires for autocross competition using Falken Azenis.
I raced on some new avs es 100s yesterday. They did very well. I was happy. I also did a racing driving school on saturday and drove solo2 style for about 25-30mins total in the day. So the tires have about a season worth of wear but have only seen one race. They held up nicely though. Theyll never be the best but if you want daily driver and auto-x tires. Id recommend them.
I haven't autocrossed on them, but did a driving school at Road Atlanta with them. Initial turn in is a bit slower than some other 'stiff as boards' tires in this category, but it's still decent. Very progressive break away, and I found the tires still held on and gripped with larger slip angles than most street tires do(which is good considering it went well with my total n00b overdriving habits).
They did tend to go away pretty badly at the last 5-10 minutes of a 25-30 minute session, but I noticed it was mostly from really getting on the gas early and seeing just how hard I could squeeze the brakes. All in all they held up really well, but didn't like extremely hot temps(which you won't see in autocrossing).
Good daily driver tires.
Slightly OT - but what do you guys think of a 225/45-17 Azenis on a 17x8.5" rim? The 225 Azenis runs wide(as does the whole range), and has a section width about as wide as 235 tires according to specs. They're only a few bucks more than ES100's, and would be a more affordable tire, with better grip to tear up. Just worried that the tire would be too narrow for the rim...
