Default Repainting Valve Cover

When i got my B16 put in, the original valve cover was painted red...its a pretty sick job but i wanted to change the color...
how to i prep something like that? Ive read in a few post to sand it first?? How about after the painting, how to i clean the paint of the letters?? Some of your pics look perfessionally powder coated!! And i guess some high temp paint from my local hardware store will do right?
thanks
Jon

first take it off of course. next use some aircraft paint remover (my bro got his at walmart heh) and spray that on. let it sit for a few min. while it eats away the paint. then use a wire brush and some paper towels to wipe away the remover and the old paint. you may want to spray the remover on 2 or 3 times. to get the rest of the paint off just put it under water... but make sure you get all the water out of the valve cover after you're done.

next just use some good ol high temp paint and spray the baby down. as for the letters, use some sand paper to sand off where all the letters are.

you can either get textured paint or do light coats of gray and the color you want. example... light coat or red, light coat of gray, light coat of red... and so forth if you wan red.

heres a pic of how my bro's turned out in his post.

You can also put Vaseline on the letter before you paint, then once youve painted just wipe it off because the paint wont stick to it.
