dyno poll
always do it in 4th , i have proof that my car made more power in 4th, and actually got into an arguement with the guys at the Dyno contest at NOPI, and proved em wrong , they said 3rd is better. . ..i told em i was pretty sure i knew my car better then that . . . . that got me a trophy at the contest too .
It doesnt matter what gear. You can run it in any gear including reverse
, You are just getting an idea what the car is putting down and the tuning improvements.
I usually run it in 3rd gear.
1st and 2nd goes to fast
4th puts more load on the motor (especially if your flooring it from 2500-3000rpm)
Reverse never tried it (Doesnt reverse make that "Vrrrr" noise like something is broke or is about to break?)

arent u supposed to do it in which ever gear has the closest ratio 1:1 with the gearbox? so 4th gear for an R because it 1.107, when 3rd is 1.458.
am im wrong?

That's what I've heard too, but then there's the 4.4 final gear reduction which totally throws trying to get close to 1:1 out the window. I'm pretty sure the dyno does a 1:1 calculation already based on roller speed and engine RPM.
But anyway here's an old dyno of mine ran in 3rd and 4th gear, no major differences.

No it was pretty dissapointing actually. That was AEM CAI, DC JDM header, Carsound cat, Comptech exhaust. It had a nice midrange but definitely wasn't the dyno I wanted. I've since replaced all that with better stuff, now making 187whp on stock internals after cam/fuel tuning was done.

it will only vary at most a few hp between gears, but typically you want to run at a 1 to 1 ratio for better "power to the ground" numbers. I've seen vids of Porsches running in 6th gear!!!
But like people have said, it puts a LOT more load on your engine
