I've never heard this. From pics I've seen it doesn't look that thick.

Instructions on their website don't say anything about replacing bolts.

I replaced both intake and exhaust studs with longer and stronger studs. I am using the hondata gasket, and there doesnt appear to be any advantages to running the longer studs. Here is a pic of the intake studs.

I run longer studs on the exhaust side to double nut the manifold. I had alot of problems in the past with the nuts coming off when I would drive.

I guess it all depends on your particular setup and the thickness of washers you received with the Hondata gasket. The original gasket is 3mm thick and the washer is another 2mm. So, If you have an extra 5mm length on you studs, then you're good to go and don't worry about it. If not, you know what to do.

Hey Boosed-Hybrid,

Do you recommend a certain type of material for the stud and do you remember the length for the new studs you got? I just ordered a hondata gasket and another manifold and was gonna do the same thing.

They were grade 12 hardness. The material is steel, but not sure exactly what type, i.e 1040, 1020, etc. They were 1" longer than stock.

I run the hondata IM gasket on my LS. No need for longer studs. I recently installed one on a customers B16, again no need for longer studs. My brother has one on his RSX-S, again no need for longer studs.
You can use them. The nuts, when torqed will come almost flush to the head of the stud, but it works out ok.

I bought all 20 at fastenal. I dont know if you have them in your area. They are industrial supply company, that deals with pretty much anything you can think of industrial related. This was the reason I could buy the studs in grade 12, normally grade 8 is the highest you can purchase.

In all honesty, you dont need the studs on the intake with the gasket. I just used the studs on the intake and exhaust sides because I ordered another set for a friend, and they didnt end up using them for their exhaust side of the head. I do recommend using studs on the exhaust side of the head however, I like to double nut the manifold. I always have problems with the bolts working their way off.
