Default ...how do I remove/replace speedo cable?

....I finally got around to taking my cluster out, it was making a "wheel bearing gone bad" noise and realized it's not the cluster but the speedo cable that is "bad" and making the noise. Someone mentioned that the cable may need greasing? and/or does anyone have instructions on removing the cable and replacing it...couldn't find any info in any repair manual. I drove around with the cluster removed and know it's the cable...

to remove from the tranny there is one very small horseshoe shape pin hold it in .. you can just pull it right out but becareful not to lose that pin.

yea... once you have the cable out from the tranny, hold it up and pull the internal part out by the tip. grease that bitch up and slide it back in.

I just did this not too long ago, the cable is easily freed from the cluster and from the speedo sensor on th tranny, then pull it out from the dash side, then take a straightened metal coat hanger and rout it through the fire wall and get it to come out in the dash area, then, electrical tape the hell outa the new speedo cable to the hanger and then pull the harger out of the hole from the firewall and there ya have it...it was a headache until i resorted to old school wiring methods...

...haven't had any problems with the cable staying in the tranny without the clip....changed trannies 6 months or so ago When I remove it will just the cable from the sheath come out or does the entire assembly come out (sheath and cable).....sunny and nice all week and now that I have time to do it rain

any lube should work, i think. But I used all-purpose grease and that worked for me.

actually, i dont run clips either. It makes tranny pulls easier. I have never had one EVER pop out with Si speedo cables on L3 trannies or a 90 teg speedo cable on my S1 trannies. They really have nowere else to go unless the cable is pulled too tight...

What is the horseshoe clip like? Like the things have hold the brake lines to the car or the thing that hold the ebrake cables to the calipers? Little springy U looking things?
