Default steel brake lining

I was told that putting steel brake linings in my type-r would help when racing. Has anyone done this? What does it do?

Either you haven't done a search or your question is not specific enough

There's a good discussion of the pros and cons at http://www.geocities.com/SiliconVall...s.html#SSBRAKE

Also, your friends are talking about brake LINES (in other words, putting braided steel wrap around the rubber hoses, or lines, that the brake fluid passes through) and not LININGS (the friction material on the brake pads).
