2.5 for a d series engine will most certainly be too big IMO. 2.25 should be big enough with stock internals.

I agree. Unless the motor is heavily modified, stick with a 2.25.

not to beat an already dead horse but will the 2.5" degrade what little overall whp there is? i was thinking of going that route JUST in case i DO decide to do a swap down the road. i am getting a KTeller8 exhaust and the price is the same for 2.25" and 2.5" so its kinda hard to make the decision.

it doesn't sound like your plans to do a swap are pretty concrete at this time. just stick to the 2.25" system. your performance will likely suffer from a 2.5" system with your motor. if you really want to do a swap, then just save your money until then.

If your car doesn't produce a lot of horsepower, a bigger exhaust will cause the engine to lose torque....because of lack of back pressure....

Actually, if you take the header off and run it from your air intake, to the throttle body you will get 4x as much horsepower because there are 4 runners for the air to pass through....

As I posted before in one of the 2000CX's threads, I have a stock exhaust manifold and catalytic converter mated to 2.5" piping and a straight-thru Magnalfow on my D16Y8. I don't *feel* I lost any low-end and I noticed more power in the mid- to high-end RPM band - this all based on the butt-dyno however and going from stock piping with no muffler and a tip (previous owner, not myself). I probaly could be making more power with 2.25" piping, but as long as I still make more power than before - and having more upgrade options - I was fine with it.

If you read vtecvoodoo's post about his new header, you'll see that it goes from 2.5" at the collector and then up to 3" and creates some kind of exhaust/air effect to speed up velocity. Will that work on a slightly modified D-series? Maybe not, but that's what I'm going to try.

OK, now I'm just rambling but hopefully it helped.

EDIT: Where'd you get the DC Sports 4-1? And for how much? I plan on getting this header in a couple months with a high-flow catalytic converter.

ps-I got a dc 4-1 with a 2.5" exhaust and have no problems, except the dunk muffler is loud as ****.

clm...after some conversation with a close friend today i MIGHT not be needing this header anymore...and would probably be willing to let it go for less than i paid for it. its funny how things(motors) kinda just fall from the sky. i have wanted to build my y7 for a while but i promised myself if i got a good deal on something bigger i would not pass it up. PM me and we can talk about it before i post in the classifieds.
