Default VTEC enguagement and high idle questions

Hey H-Ters, couple of questions maybe some of you could help me out with.

couple of weeks ago i finished doing a swap in my 96 civic coupe EX (OBDII)
and put in a B18C (sir-g OBDI) in my car.

swap went well, runs perfectly fine, but i have a couple of questions.

1) My car idles at 1500rpm - all the vaccum lines are plugged, but the o2 sensor isnt wired. could it be the o2? throttle cable is okay too.

2) im running the p72 ecu, and i have the skunk2 OBDI - OBDII convertor, and my vtec engauges at 4500 rpm. isnt it supposed to be like 5400 or something?

TIA

-Paul

something like this happened to me when one sensor was depluged.
I don't know how it's called but on a D engine it's next to the temperature gage sensor.
I had 1500 idle and 5000 rpm cut off

For the idle, I know this sounds stupid, but have you adjusted the screw on the throttle body to bring the idle down? Also, what's the distributor timing set at?

Stock crossover for a GSR is 4500, it gets louder and usually kicks around 5200-5400 because of the secondary's opening up.

yeah check the timing and adjust the screw on the tb...
also check what kind of injectors you have and if you have a injector resistor pack
installed

thanks

as for my timing its perfect.. i used a timing gun .. and for turning the screw - i heard NOT to do that.

do you think it could be the o2 sensor causing the 1500 idle ?

it doesnt cut off or anything just some what irritating.

Really? I've always used the throttle body screw to adjust the idle, never had a problem in the past.

you mentioned that your o2 is not hooked up right? if so then your CEL is prolly on, that causes your idle to be at 1500-i wouldnt recomend touhing the idle control at the TB becuase i dont think that is your problem.

as far as vtec starting at 4500, thats what pple call the 1st stage of vtec, but its really the butterflies openeing, then vtec engages at 5700 RPM

primary or secondary o2? he converted to obd1..so he should NOT be throwing a secondary o2 code.
i'd also adjust the TB screw.. don't listen to whoever told you NOT to mess with it, if it weren't meant to be adjusted..then honda would never have put it there.

jonuts i should only have one o2 sensor now right? im running a straight pipe so.

but i even tried the screw and it wouldnt get the idle to be at 800 or so.

i guess i'll wire the o2 in and see what happens.

Amazing how many opinions there are about vtec and butterflys.. I'm pretty sure the secondaries don't open till into 6,000 range..

vtec engages at 4400 RPMS.. i feel an added kick at about 5200 - 5400.. but that does not even compare to the kick around 6,500 rpms.. I'm pretty sure the secondaries open up then.

if it was rainiing yesterday i would have tried to figure it all out. i believe at 4500 or 4400 vtec initially engauges then seomwehre b/w 5600-6000 is when the real stuff happens.

but its nice and dry out today... will figure it out
