i wish...realistically you probably won't gain much horsepower at all on a SOHC...but i guess if you had turbo installed and knew how to tune it you could gain that much out of the cam gear.

 

if you tune the motor with the cam gear you might be able to pull out maybe 5 horsepower if you're lucky.

 

with tuning....it helps (it did for me)

 

um.. whats the use of cam gears without aftermarket cam shafts? haha

more with n/a cars and less with boosted cars.

 

Are you saying there is no gain with cam gear without an aftermarket camshaft? I hope not, because if so, you have alot to learn.

cam gears are definately not pointless without aftermarket cam shafts, but its a nice combo to have both and you will see MORE Hp gains. But thats not saying that you will see NO gains by just adding cam gears. Im doing that to my B18c so, its wrong for me to put STR cam gears on there?? I dont think so.

 

That ad is a straight up lie. You will never get 7-14hp out of a stock SOHC motor by adding cam gears. PERIOD. They are quite useful in DOHC motors though.

I disagree. On lightly modded SOHC that might be true, but on a heavily modified motor, I can see 7-14 being made through tuning of the cam gear, along with fuel and timing adjustments. The ad is only a lie if you purchase one and thow it on a SOHC with (for example) exh/header/filter and were expecting 7-14 hp increases.

OK, you wanna start another sohc vs dohc battle??? Then take it somewhere else.

The reason adjustable cam gears can be more useful on dohc engines compared to sohc is because you can adjust each cam accordingly- ie retard the exhaust and advance the intake. This is impossible to do on a sohc engine becauase the intake/exhaust is on the same cam. This is why a aftermarket cam is so important to get you the right overlap needed for your application. All a cam gear is going to do is adjust the powerband where you see fit. On my D16Z6 last weekend, I gained 2 whp at 7 grand by moving the cam gear advanced 1 degree. This is with a ZEX street/strip cam though.

I've also seen a fiend gain 20 whp by adjusting cam gears on his lsvtec....the craziest example I've ever seen

 

you might as well adjust the dizzy and gain that hp!! I honestly can't see 7-14 hp gain on a stock to mildly modded motor. maybe on a fully built motor running high compression or a turbo motor. basic h/i/e with cam gears don't do squat. you're better off saving it and buying a AFC.

That was written just like every ad for every other sport compact part on the market. CAM gears don't ad power period. They are tuning devices. You use them in conjunction with other tunable items (fuel, spark, etc.) to produce more power. Anyone who actually knows what a cam gear does shouldn't be fooled by this ad and if they are fooled, then they obviously don't know what they are buying... We all know the saying... A fool and his money are soon parted.
