Default Grind in Tranny...

Wassup guys? Well i have a grind going into 3rd gear. I have a 94 b18b that's pretty much stock cept intake exhaust, ITR clutch and flywheel.

I was wondering what you guys think i should do? Just replace with another ls tranny or go with a b16 or gsr tranny. Would i just be better off with a b16 tranny? By the way it's hydro not cable.

And if anyone would want my ls tranny let me know. The grind is not bad, just when shifting fast, otherwise fine when driving normally.

If you get the Si tranny the gears will be closer. It helps keep it in VTEC when you shift, but seeing as you have an LS, VTEC is not an issue. If the grind isn't too bad and you don't mind doing tranny work, you might want to fix it yourself.

That's what my friend told me, do you think some fluid would take care of it?

sorry for bringing this up from the dead.

The grind in my 3rd has gotten worse, im going to put some tranny fluid in to ease the grind but this summer i'd like to get a new tranny. I would like to go with a b16 and add the ls 5th gear, i was wondering if that is hard to do because in the future i'd like to go turbo.

I'm not tryin to create another "which is better for turbo tranny" but i would like to know which i'd be better off with. I have a b18b if you haven't picked up on it yet.

Thanks guys.

John

Synchros are actually very expensive! Expect to pay around 150-200 for 3rd into 4th as they come in sets. You might just be better off with an entirely new trans, rebuilding can potentially cost as much as a used one...

I have that same problem, like you said only when shifting fast. some fool on here told me to keep double cluthN it and it should go away... bad advice or good advice ?? honda makes good engines but shitty trannies imo

Double clutching will not heal a bad synchro. It might serve a purpose in allowing the trans to slow to a more accepting RPM, but this is only a band-aid to the problem...

Might want to try some GM Syncromesh. If that doesn't do it and this is your only car, just replace the whole tranny, unless you can afford the down time of fixing your current one.
