timing belt tensioner
With 60000 on the 5th gen I go to get it tuned and the guy comes back with a story about the timing belt tensioner. He says it is leaking internally, causing it to not adjust fast enough and thus, the belt is not properly tensioned at times and can break. Furthermore he says this is a direct result of driving hard.
Does this sound plausible or has it happened to anyone else?
Also how much would this cost to fix as I see it would require taking apart the engine?
Also i see stuff about auto tensioner or manual tensioner?

hey, sorry for the late reply, but yea, the auto tensioner has been a prob for the 5th gens around 50-60K miles no matter what type of driving, and there is a TSB out for it. The way you can tell if yours is bad, youll hear most of the noise on deceleration, it will be like a GRRRRRR noise, why it does that is because the tensioner is getting fully extended and putting too much pressure on the belt. You have heard about the manual tensioner because you can switch over to the H23 manual tensioner, and it is safer, for about the same price of the parts that it costs to do the replacing of the auto tensioner. Look into it and MAKE sure it is the tensioner that is bad because I just did mine and it was a major beotch, just a lot of time consuming little things got in the way, and the dealer wanted 600$ labor only.....
Well because of my damn tensioner, my timing belt slid over and rubbed the t-belt cover and started a blaze in the engine bay, but it all turned out great, got the t-belt, tensioner, and labor for $0.00!!!!!!!!!! But my advice to you is to replace the auto-tensioner with another *brand new* honda auto tensioner! make sure everything is correct and drive off. You should change the timing belt while your there and the water pump because of the labor it cost to do it again( i mean to come back in there!) I will let you know that you do not have to take the engine apart, it is all on the side of the engine. you take that engine mount off and the tire and lift the car up and access it all through the wheel well and from the top!
i have answers if you have questions. good luck

What exactly is needed to do the conversion?
It looks like i've got almost all of that on the h22 except parts 18 and 19, 30.
#27 I have, but it might be slightly different than the h22.
And I dunno if I've got 25 or 26.
Can anybody tell me exactly what it is I need? I don't want to buy anything I don't need, or not buy something I do need.
I searched, but everything I found...people just listed off everything. And I've got at least half of that stuff on the h22 already.

i know for a fact youll need numbers 18,19,20,25,26,27,30.Number 10 i dont really remember, but im almost sure it will be needed. The part numbers on both engines are differnt for the same part.
