Default exhaust gaskets

how many exhaust gaskets are required when changing out a cat back exhaust on an EK hatch? the cat back exhaust i bought came with 2 oval shaped gaskets and 1 triangular shaped gasket.

muffler section to S-pipe
S-pipe to resonator section
resonator section to downpipe/or a-pipe
a-pipe to cat

arent i missing one? missing 1 oval shaped gasket?

Depends on how many pieces the cat back is. There should be a flange for each gap that is bolted together. The triangular one goes against the cat.

if ur going to flange all the connections..use the spring load d nuts and bolts..it ll keep things a bit more flexible underneth when the road gets bumpy

this is what i have basically.

muffler section
that S looking pipe
the long pipe with the resonator
and that short pipe that connects to the cat

mine came with only 3 gaskets - 2 oval and 1 triangular
am i supposed to reuse any gaskets? maybe thats why it only came with 3

That's all there is to it. The triangular one goes against the cat, then the other two gaskets go in between the other 2 pieces.

Looks like you have one extra piece that doesn;t normally come with catback's for civic's....(If that pic shows every part you have).

when you buy a cat-back, they usually come with all the gaskets and stuff you'll need to bolt it right up.

does the resonator bolt to the S-pipe or that small pipe? or does it matter if the resonator is closest to the front or rear of the car? in other words, which way does that long pipe with resonator bolt in?

Okay you will need three gaskets if your RS*R didn't come w/ them. (assuming we are dealing w/ a honda here) Mine didn't but I bought it used.
Orielly or your local exhaust shop should have what you need. You will need a triangular gasket that goes between the cat and the b-pipe, this one will have three holes. So you can only bolt on the B-pipe one way and that will determine where the resonator sits.
The other end of the b-pipe will be a 2 hole almost oval gasket, that will bolt to the axle portion of the b-pipe. then the other gasket will go between the axle back exhaust section and the b pipe axle portion. It's all pretty self explanatory and if you aren't sure, maybe someone should install it for you.

Please refer to the pic. thats what i have. and i said it came with 2 oval and 1 triangular gaskets. if i do not use that small pipe, then how do i mount the long resonator section the the cat? 2 to a 3 hole flange. since that long pipe with the resonator has two sides with two holed flanges, which end goes up by the cat? i think the resonator should be at the rear, shouldnt it?

Ahhhh you have a 96-up hatch w/ a stock motor. D16Y7 Sorry

The gasket that comes off of the little down flow pipe (A-pipe) is a donut gasket that will be on your current exhaust. (picture #10) Notice the lip that is on the A pipe?(RS*R pic) You can buy a new one from Honda and or reuse the one on your current exhaust. I suggest buying a new one.
That is the problem, I completely forgot about how the manifolds were on the 96-00 hatches and where the cat was. So bolt up everything as described above and buy a new donut gasket or reuse the current one that will go after that pipe.
Sorry for the confusion.

James

Reuse the donut gasket between the a-pipe and b-pipe (resonator) section. See how the flange is recessed on the a-pipe? You fit the the donut gasket on there and use your old spring bolts...

Part #10 on the diagram.

i can probably reuse it because the small downpipe has that portion that extends into the resonator section. am i correct in my assumption? you would need to replace it with a new one if it did not have that piece sticking into the resonator section because you would have an interface like the muffler section into that S-pipe...right?
