Default 99-00 Climate controls in a 96-98

I've seen a few of you out there that have done this, care to shed some light on the process?

I realize that just straight swapping will not work blah blah blah. I'm more concerned with which harness I need to replace in order for it to work.

yo...

you have to change out your dash harness and the climate control boxes from behind the dash, and if you change out your dash harness you'll have to change your engine harness, and if you change your engine harness you'll have to change your ECU, and so on and so forth, and if you're changing your dash harness you might as well get one from an EX or Si and convert to power windows, locks, mirrors, etc...

of course you could just splice stuff in, but you will for sure need the the boxes behind the dash.

S3arch Y0!

seriously though, I know you can't search the archives right now, but it really isn't worth it if you don't have a wrecked 99 sitting in front of you.

There is a LOT to change. Not just harnesses, but heaterbox, blowerbox and even the dashboard if you dont want the climate control to fit janky.

Trust me, I wanted to do this too, and even had the heaterbox and climate control...then when I started to do more research in the Helms, I found out that you also need the blowerbox a few harnesses, blah blah.. then once you got all the parts, you need to do some voodoo magic where the harness connects to the cabin harness and blah blah.

i believe all 96-00 dashes are the same (except for diff colors). the 99 controls bolt into the 96-98 dashes just fine. i've seen it and it doesn't look funny or ghetto or anything. but tonyxcom is right, it's a ton of work.

Weak. I know someone that is selling an underdash harness..and for some reason, i thought that magically, it would hook up and everything would work.

Thanks for the info guys

Are you sure.

If you look at the 2 climate control surrounds side by side, you can see that they taper and are shaped different towards the bottom.

*points finger at fowler*

Um....where's the B16? Jo crazy turkey, first spoon mirrors and now 99-00 climate controls.....

I guess going from a C1, Tein, 5 lug powered 00 Hatch to a 96-98 CX will screw with your head huh?

I know it will, the only question is when.

You will have built 2 cars while I am still trying to build 1.

well damnit...i just went and got the climate controls, blower box, and heater core from a 2000 to go into my 96 civic and now i find out this **** is still not gonna work? wtf...that sucks...i hate the design of the climate control/radio **** in the 96-98....guess i will have to find something else to waste time converting....

can someone give me an idea of really what all is involved if i just spliced wires etc??? i might go ahead and do it just to satisfy myself. i am always up for a challenge.

if you have all that, then just find a 99-00 dash harness, or at least the part that goes to the climate controls and the separate wiring that goes into the heater and blower boxes, and go for it. i sold a complete 99 cx dash harness on ebay for like $10 a couple months ago. go to a junkyard and get one. splicing stuff up would be an adventure, but it'd be dope afterward. i have the 96-00 civic ETM (electronic troubleshooting manual), so if you have q's about pinouts, just ask.

I have a 2000 Dash in my 98 hatch with the olderr 96-98 controls, the dashes are the same, all but two small clip holders on the top corners of the bezel, which didnt affect fitment.

*I did it*

1. Remove dash, replace blower and the center a/c box (don't know what it is called).
2. Put in new wiring harness.
3. Splice connector C401. 96-98 hatchback model has 14 wires, while the 99-00 coupe (the one I used) has 20 wires. I have the pinout guide if you need it.
4. put dash back in.
5. plug the new wire harness into the 99-00 b16a2 ecu. If you are not using this ecu I see a lot of hardship in your future.
6. Enjoy your new groovy dial ac controllers.

Really, this was a gargantuan pain in the ***, but oh well. Now that it is done I don't really care how hard it was.

You will need a new head unit/harness, a new water valve inside the engine bay, and a lot of patience. Someone told me I needed a new dash, but that turned out not to be true.

I thought that school was more important than cars...

Good luck.

I did it in my car more of just for looks. It looks really cool with the block off plate installed. I myself have no a\c on my car and i dont need the heater. So i moved my radio to the bottom and installed the 99-00 controls. The only thing that plugs up and works is the emergency flashers. Im not really worried about it since its summer and all. Im sure ill eventually wire it up its just a big pain. Oh well im happy with mine cause it was free and my old center dash peice was broken when i got the car. Oh and also the dashes are the same size. On the 96-98 you have to snap off the three taps at the top(white plastic) and then the 99-00 has metal clips that hold it in place. You also need the 99-00 airvent that sits behind the dash.

Why do you specifically need the 99-00 b16a2 ecu?

Sounds like a whole lotta work. I like the 96-98 Civic styling as a whole, rather than the 99-00.
