Default gude head package (for d16a) or b18b?

i've emailed the gude guys for some info one head packages on my 90 civic si and from what they've told me, most of their packages give you a good amount of power and can still pass smog (not to mention have reasonable gas mileage). would any of you recommend this package? or should i just pay a little more and go b18b? of course, i'd have to pay someone else to put on my head (or drop in the motor). i mean, i could do the labor myself, but i don't trust my mechanical skills enough yet. any suggestions are helpful, though i'm really thinking hard about the gude package

so NOBODY has heard anything about the gude head at all??? i wanna get all the opinions possible before i choose to either build my d16a or get a b18b...i just want something with more zip. the gude head is puttin down 150 hp and 123 ft-lbs of torque to the wheels, i don't think the b18b can do that in stock form...but then the b18b has more potential. of course, i don't have enough money yet for any serious modding of the b18b...what to do?

Since you said you might not be able to mod the LS motor you should proli get the gude head.
plus with the money you save over the swap you could snag a few bolt ons too and easily over power a stock ls.

Go b18b definitely. All I've ever heard about Gude has been bad. From not meeting performance promises and horrible customer service to lagging on core refunds, ect.... BTW where did you get those dyno numbers? Go b18b and if you have the time/money throw some b16a pistons in the LS to bump compression up to ~ 11:1 that motor will rip. $.02

My head work experience with Gude was horrible, and I would never recommend anyone to him after what I went through ......

Don't go with Gude. I've personally talked to about 3 people who got screwed over by them, not to mention about a half dozen more who posted on a board that they got screwed. I've heard stuff from not gaining any power, not getting the parts after they ordered them and not getting their money back from the core charge. I remember one guy was actually sueing them, not sure how that turned out.

i have heard mixed opinions about the gude stuff. i haven't experienced it personally so i can't go gude or not. but i will say that the b18a'b wouldn't be a bad idea at all. the low end power of the motor is ideal for street driving.

For your hard money, here' what I would do....

Drop in a B16A swap.

Best potential out of all of them.

Swap: -$1250
HCP Engineering mounts & shift linkage: -$425

Rent an engine lift: -$40/day

Sell your old powerplant: +$100

Buy your friends beer for helping you out: -$30

Here's a wiring diagram to help you out:
http://www.b17a.com/b16a_wiring.htm

It's only 4 wires that you need to hard-wire. Or you can run an ECU program that doesn't even look for the knock sensor or 2nd oxygen sensor. Then you'll only have 2 wires to hook up!
