Mitsubishi vs. Garrett SIZING (#G vs. #trim, A/R vs. #cm2, TD05 vs. .60a/r T3)
Anyone have some measurements on say a 60trim T3 vs. 18G compressor wheels? i.e. which'ns bigger etc? Also, if anyone knows anything about Mitsubishi turbos, how do those wacky *cm2 turbine housing measurements compare to normal *A/R measurements? How about the compressor housings? .60a/r T3 vs. say a TD05? Damn, Mitsu turbos are wacky...

This explains the designation of the 14B/16G/20G. Basically, that part of it refers to the compressor wheel.

"The TD series is the common name for several Mitsubishi turbochargers. The TD05 is the most popular of the upgraded turbos. "TD05" is actually Mitsubishi's designation for the turbine wheel, and, when combined with a compressor wheel size ("16G" is the most popular) and exhaust housing opening ("6 cm2"), defines a given turbocharger."
I believe the 7cm² or 8cm² that is shown, represents the area of the inlet to the turbine housing. I used to have some info saved that had several comparisons between Mitsubishi and T3/T4 turbos, but I can't seem to find it now.
It had several different comparisons between the compressor and turbine wheels.
If I find it, I'll update the post.

the TD04 15g is similar in flow to a 60 series T3, but with a taller map and with radial instead of convoluted impeller blades. radial blades tend to result in a higher PR at low compressor rpm, but lose efficiency up top because of shock losses due to the angle the air is impacting the impeller blades at. higher compressor rpm is where the T3's with their swept back impeller blades have higher compressor efficiency.
the 15g is found on volvo 850's and some volvo 940's and 960's and the saab 9000 aero.
