hey guys i'm kinda new here but i've been working on cars for a few years mostly honda's I have a question about a werid engine knock my friend's car is doing. When we rev the car up the engine sound fine not really any noticable sounds, but when it revs back down you can hear a loud knocking noise all the way till idle then it gets quite again. He recently over revved the engine so i'm guessing he toasted some bearings? my guess would be the main bearings? i'm hoping one of you guys might know if its easy to rebuild a motor like this or if i should just go with another junkyard one for about 350. I would swap but i do not have the money to do it at this time. Just got done spending 1K an a auto to manul conversion using a prelude trany. Thanks in advanced.

 

anyone? guy said its the cam gear loose? but i checked it and its tight, he said it didn't sound like a rod knock to him, but at the time it wasn't as loud as it is now, when i heard it last night it was loud. still confused why it doesn't sound bad on accel but sounds horriable on decel, someone please need ur info???

 

sounds like rod knock is it a high milage car?? i had one come in the shop like this but it had 260K on it i told the guy to keep driving it till it got worse and i would just get him a used engine to replace it with

 

yeah i figured out it, kept driving it till the thing wouldn't go, well whats werid is it wouldn't go in gear but the motor started right up. so i looked in the timing hole and the presure plate looks as if it just came off??? looks like we will be tearing it down to replace it...
