just picked up my $75 accord today. shes a beaut!!
its a 1987 accord. blue. I drove it home for $75. has 177,xxx miles. runs good, no smoke clouds. I just have to put a new clutch in, and change all the fluids and it will be good. no dents, a little rust. all in all, its a cool car.
is there anything worth doing to this car? or pretty much beat the **** out of it untill it dies. which i don't think im going to do, casue ill spend $100 on a clutch, why go beat the **** out of it. but i was just wondering if there is anything cool to do to these cars. maybe some fiberglass hood/roof vents. haha, NO.

great price
i would'nt really do anything to it but get your moneys worth out of it.
if you have another car i'd say park it and do work to that and keep this for your beater.
for the record..if this $75 car is'nt really beat on you can exepct many more miles on it. my 87 lude ran to 260k and then i still sold it for $600.

hang on to it. 3rd gens are just about the best reliable long running car you can get. Good for another 100K plus if you take care of it.
Other than that. Strip it out!!!

cool, thanx guys. i should put a new clutch in it though. drove it home and it slips a little. 177,xxx miles on stock clutch, wow.
but i don't think i would put a lot of money into it. just fix rust, maybe make some vents some where on the car, but probably not. then rollor paint the car. major orange peal on the car kinda looks cool. and rollor painting a car is just fun.

me and a friend tried to kill his third gen, we ran the @#$@ out of it....deffinately did absolutely nothing to it
...very reliable, although eventually the automatic tranny gave out and wouldn't shift out of 2nd gear
.
Anyhow, for $75, shoot, if it runs for 5,000 miles you got your money's worth. If it's carb'ed the only thing you could do is flip the filter lid (standard trick). Or perhaps just make a custom intake with some dryer hose?
I wouldn't waste any money on it, other than just gas.....drive it, work on your other car.
I REALLY wish I could find ANY car that ran for $75

I have had my 3rd gen for 3 years, and it is up for sale now. I havent ever had a problem with the car, its such a fun car to work on because no one else has one. I now have a 5th gen, but the 3rd gen was a definite learning experience as a first car. The paint is stock!!!

wow, thats what my prelude looks like, except for the rims, and my car has a little rust.
but i tried to turn the filter cover over before i drove it home. but i couldn't, wing nuts couldn't be put back on, bolts not long enough, and the clamps couldn't grab it either.

Haha...nobody can ever figure out what that mystery lever is for, lol. It's for the tilt steering wheel...you pull it and push it down towards your feet, and you can move the wheel up and down. Pull it back up to lock it in place, let go and it'll suck itself back in. For the flipped lid, you have to hammer them down flat (the holes where the bolts go through), since normally they were slightly recessed when it was on the original way. Or you could just do what one of my friends did on his 87 LX and cut the sides off the airbox, so it was just the top and bottom to seal the filter. See pic...
But yea, like other peeps have said, 3rd gens are as reliable and durable as a boring work day is loooooong. Pretty much the only way to kill them is to overheat it or drive off a cliff, LOL. See my mileage in my sig.... completely original engine with no rebuilds (still getting 200psi compression across all 4), original tranny with no rebuilds, and yes still the original factory clutch (believe me or not... many don't but it's true). And a whole bunch of other original parts. Runs and drives like brand new, a/c blows 38 degrees, and I couldn't be happier. So yea... very good cars!! For $75, you sure can't beat that with a stick!
Good choice!
Just keep the rust under control and it'll last you for about as long as you want to keep driving it

wow, 313,500 miles on ariginal clutch, im impressed. I think this lude needs a new clutch, but im going to figure that out when i drive it again, it probably just needs to be adjusted. but the flip up head lights rule. can leave them down and hit the lever to turn the brights on, and it looks like a under body kit at night. lol. i think i had my $75 worth just playing with the head lights.
