Better or best. I've used xtant, and they're nice. But I really like my friend's arc audio amp. Mcintosh is pretty nice too, better than my xtant but not as nice as an Arc. And there's brax too.... extremeley nice.

hmm if you are just talking about performance and not price, then here's a couple of good amps, expensive but good, Sounstream Da vinci, Sounstream Tarantula, PPI, Xtant, Phoenix gold, McIntosh and the best bang for the buck award goes to Fosgate

The amps with the BEST SQ I've ever heard are McIntosh (bling bling!), Zapco, and Xtant...in that order. The new Zapco Competition line could rival the McIntosh's in SQ tho...they're awesome! The new JL amps are pretty sweet also. I'd rate the JL amps after Xtant (and JL amps are pretty low-priced). Then, it'd be PPI, Nakamichi, Soundstream, PG, and Orion. Want an awesome amp with the cleanest power?...definitely check out the Zapco's.

Definitely Orion by a long shot!! Orion's up there with Soundstreams and Phoenix Gold. MTX's are with the lower Kenwoods and Jensens (ok, maybe a lil better than Jensen).

Vtec_inside: Good to see a fellow Zapco enthusiast! Zapco rules!! Just badass, super sound quality, and clean high power! Have you had a chance to check out their new Competition line?...those are awesome! I have one of the Competition amps from the previous generation...got a special edition one with an engraved silver plate where the normal black one went. Love that amp! I thought about selling it for a while...stupid me!

I picked up an AG200 off one of the local sound shops for $170 Can. I was hesitant at first because I had never heard of them, and I mean, C'mon... Zapco?? Just sounds cheap..... Little did I know. This amp is supposed to be about 200 Watts RMS, but it has to be underrated. It pushes my 1 12" sub harder then my older system which was a 600 Watt 2 15" system. Now I'm a beleiver.

Yup, Zapco's are definitely under-rated! And, my Zapco Competition amp can drive down to 1ohm...pretty sweet! Most 4-ch amps can't go below 2ohm. I've known people to drive as low as 0.5ohm stereo and 1ohm bridged on Zapco's w/o any probs.

haha, yeah, Zapco does sound "cheapy" tho. Xtant sounds cooler...I got one of those too...but I like Zapco better still.

Rockford Fosgates Rock!!!! I have one, and I've seen many others. I don't think anything else really compares for overall quality of construction, design, and sound. Just my opinion though.

Every major company has its badass amps, the new JL AUDIO amps that are out are digital and put out true power and are not as pricey as others and most of the time do a better job of moving the subs.

Yeah, the new JL amps are awesome!...they're definitely up there with PPI and possibly even Xtant. I still don't think they're as good as the new Zapco Comp line, but considering the price diff, the JL's can't be beat. They'll have a 500.5 5-ch coming out around fall. That one should be awesome!

I'm currently running Memphis... I love the clarity I get. I'm running a 300W for my mids/highs, then another 300W for my subs. I know it's not as clean as XTant or McIntosh... but ****... I only have $800 bucks in both amps. I've ran RF, Clarion, Sony, Alpine, JBL, and many others i've installed in other peoples. And for this price range, this is by far my favorite amp... if I was straight money bags I'd go out an spend the green... but I'm not.
So just another option to check out... http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/P2&3_Menu.htm
have fun man...

JL Audio.

They hired the engineers who started at PPI, and Xtant to design these amps. We've been selling a lot of these at the shop I work at. Everybody loves them, from the salesguys to the installers. These are the amps we all use in our own cars. Start off with a 300/4 4 channel and then add if you need a dedicated subwoofer amp, use a 500/1 class D mono (not a Digital....they amplify an analog signal) They're around $500 a piece.

Awesome amps.
