Just Painted My Intercooler Black....check it out
This is for the fellas and gals who are afraid to paint their intercooler. I emailed RRE for some information. They had a feature on their site where they painted their intercooler black. I asked what paint they used and they replied by saying regular paint. So in turn I said woot woot and painted my intercooler. I used some duplicolor flat black paint...and just applied one light coat. I left the top and bottom of the core unpainted, and the back of the intercooler unpainted.
This is the PWR 18x6x3 supplied by Mike Laskey...great service and product....i really recommend.

This is the intercooler with fins painted. I held the intercooler on its end and proceeded to paint the intercooler at a 45degree angle.
this is a close up...maybe its hard to see...but its to show all the scared people that just the edges were painted..and the inside is completely unpainted
Thank you again to all the help from the cool people on this board....I am almost done with this project and will post all information and pics as soon as my car is done.

just a quick question... will painting the fins affect the efficiency significantly? I see that the inside is not painted so there should not be much difference right?

Speed PHreak has his IC painted black, just the same light light front coat as you have. Even with his front bumper trimmed you can't tell the car is other than stock unless you're up on the car bent over looking into the bumper.

It shouldn't effect the airflow at all. If you look closely only half of the front row of fins is painted....everything inside is still in its raw finish. I am happy with how it turned out...now to weld the mount fittings on......

Intercooler/Radiator? Straight Sleeper. Let's hope that the painted fins doesn't mess with the efficiency of the intercooler, great job though.

and for the intercooler, i really like the way it looked with just the ends and tanks painted, wth silver fins...that looks hot....think i'll steal the idea!

Looks good, and rest assure...the paint will have no effect on intercooler eficiency. Its a great idea for people wanting to have the racer secret or just want less attention.

so the whole black holding heat thing, does that apply here? or does the fact that its black effect the heat it holds and the way it cools?
