Your car will be in limp mode, which if you drive in limp mode for to long I heards it not good. Why not fix it ?

Well I only heard that when you finally get the check engine light fixed, then the engine don't run like its ment to be cause its been running so rich for so long.

my 02 does the same thing. I just shut the car off then turn it back on, no check engine and no limp mode.

If you dont have an o2 sensor working properly then you are never going to have the correct A/F ratio. I believe if there is no signal at all the ECU puts it into limp mode and it runs very rich to prevent a lean condtion. This means you'll get horrible fuel mileage and you'll have to clean up your spark plugs when you do get around to replacing it. Last time I replaced one I used a Bosch universal and just soldered on the plug from my last one, I think the total was $42.00 at autozone.
