I went car shopping today and looked at an 2001 S2000 in that metallic silver color. (Not sure of the technical name)
The sales person wanted to sell it for $26,995. It had just over 20K miles and it seemed in excellent condition. I drove it and it was great.
He stressed the fact that it was "Honda Certified" which gave lots of warranties and guarantees and whatnot up to 100K miles. I'm not too concerned with that, but I wanted to know if that was a good price?
I will be putting around $9K down and financing the rest most probably.
What do you think, guys?
FYI: The car was originally $29K, but he said there was some "sale" going on that happened to end today. ::rolls eyes:: I know I can come back and get it for that same price if I wanted to.

OH GEEZ! I totally forgot about the taxes!
Anyway, it's true that the warranty extension is good, but I also know how to do lots of the repairs. I guess it's not much of a concern, since it comes with it anyway (I have no option not to get it).
Damn...well what do you think of the price anyway?

Thanks for the replies guys.....but are you also noting that this is at a dealership and NOT a private seller?
I have seen private sellers having 2001's for 20K even. But they're located so far away from me that I can't really take a look at them.

yo shamoo whats up....just thought id let you know theres a black 00 S2k for sale over by me not sure how much they wants for it.
how do you feel about going from a heavily modified turbo integra to a stock S2000?
I test drove several in the past week, and wow, I'm in love. There's really nothing that I see wrong with the car at all. I test drove a couple of SC300's because I was interested in that as well. But, no matter how good the previous owneer kept it, it still was a 9+ year old car. The interior, even though clean, was lacking many of the "modern" features that I liked.
S2K here I come!
private owner vs. dealership might be the difference in price. Make sure the car has all the repairs done (if it was done at that particular dealer, have them show your proof of maintenance, etc..).
Also, I remember getting a recall notice on the '01.. I forget what it was for. Came about 8 months ago
See if that was completed as well. Whether you go private or dealer, make sure you have ALL the documentation.
s2k is a great car!

you arent concerned about the warranty??? umm you should be... when i bought my S2K, the air/map sensor was faulty, my spark plugs were bad, and the ECU wasnt 'configured' correctly (not sure what they meant by that).... but the repairs would have cost me over $500.... bottom line-- get the certification... its worth it...
and i hope you know how much taxes are going to be.... for a $26K S2K, taxes will put it around $29K.... so you're going to be financing $20K... if you can afford $500 payments, plus the insurance, go for it...
Depending on the area you live in, that may be too high. At a recent track event, a woman was driving a brand new black 2003 that she told me she bought at a dealer in Boston for $28,500. She had to pay an extra $1000 to have it shipped to CA, but still was cheaper than what she could get it for out here.
