Q's: For those who have installed air horns...

Ok I went to the geeser's website and got his incomplete instructions. I have the hella triple air horn set, btw.
Now, I have devised a bracket and everything, but the wiring diagram is giving me a headache... I guess I'll leave the stock horn in place or maybe install a switch that will give me an option of 1,2,off, or 1+2...
But the stock horn only has one wire going to it - blue with a red stripe. I guess that's positive? And for negative, I guess it grounds to the chassis? Can someone confirm this?
I'd prefer not to destroy the oem wiring, so I've got some 16 gauge and 12 gauge I can run, but from where to where? It looks like I can only tap into the wiring or destroy a wiring harness to do what I want... How did you guys do it?
I guess if I have to, I'll tap into the positive(?) wire that goes to the stock horn and wire it back to the compressor + lead and then ground the negative lead from the compressor... Through the relay of course... Anyone know of some other isntructions somewhere? I'm sure many are sick of air horn posts...

I'll try to remember to post some pices later.. but I just cut the positive wire going to the stock horn and used the stock ground (the mount is the ground btw).

I went ahead and cut the wire, a inch or so away from the connector, just in case I needed to install the connector again. I then attached a connector to the end of that wire in order to connect it to the... (can't think right now), but the "black fuse". I can't remember what number connector it is.
There will be 2 negative wires that will need to be attached to the car's body panel.
I'm not sure if that will help.

I was thinking about putting an air horn in my car. My friend put the Hella Horns in his truck, and they are loud, but I am looking for a slightly different sound. Maybe one of you could help me....... just for those moments when you want to let someone really know they did something wrong, it would be nice to sound like a big-rig truck! Anyway to do that? I have seen ads in JC Whitney that show horns which require compressed air tanks that must be filled. There are also some that run electrically. Is there anyway to achieve the crazy loud and deep sound I am looking for? Obviously not worried about legality issues.

Yup, I ended up trashing my OEM wiring... I only did this because the OEM horn went out. As for the leads, it came with a instruction sheet that was VERY vauge, but do-able. An ideal place to mount the relay I found was on the bolt that holds an AEM CAI in place... so if you have that, perhaps a good place to mount.
From there, just run the wires (+/-) to the compressor, another to the battery, and the final one ground it. Simple eh? It wasn't

Jon, I'd say try air horns for now and then see what you can upgrade to later. You can get the triple air horns or the supertone (electronic) horns from hella. Both are supposed to be plenty loud - enough to get that cellphone weilding suv driver back into their own lane!

LOL! I think I'm getting the idea! Sounds like you need to talk with the local fire brigade and find out what kind of horn the fire trucks are using...you know, the one that's quite loud, even over the sound of the siren?
Anyone know how to get that sound. It doesn't have to be THAT loud, but the same tone, and pretty close to the same volume. heh???

The ones you want are HADLEY air horns. You will need a compressor and storage tank to get the instant blast of sound (otherwise you will have to wait for the compressor to spool up enough pressure to power the big horns). I used to have 12" FIAMM air horns on my CRX and didn't like the lag in time that was required to get air into the larger horns - but I definitely had the 'big rig' sound. It was funny at the time - but got tiring very quickly.

With the systems with an air tank, the compressor fills the air tank (just like an air-tool system). When you press the button (or pull the cord at the top of your rig) air is release from the pressurized tank to the horns. Voila! Instant paint-stripping air blast.
Without the storage tank, the compressor first has to build up pressure in the lines leading to the horns before you will hear any sound. The sound will get louder as you hold the horn button down. Delay is usually 1-2 sec.

First of all the Hadley's will never fit in your car unless you mount them sideways in front of the radiator (as I did with my CRX). Most of the Hadley systems are meant for roof mounting and are 18" or longer!! I can make no mounting suggestions for you. I used a FIAMM setup on my CRX when I was young and foolish.
For car systems, like FIAMM/Hella etc a storage tank is not needed as the horns are much smaller, usually made of plastic and require only a small compressor. The hose length from the compressor to the horns should be kept short for maximum volume.
I would imagine the Hadley horns are at least a couple hundred bux.

Will I be able to fit one of the "big rig" Hadley horns sideways sideways in front of the radiator? Anything wrong with doing that? Havin a little trouble finding the model I am looking for.... could you tell me which model I am lookin for. I think I would like the one WITHOUT the airtank based upon your recommendations.

hehe.. I dont know, I guess I'm going through that "young and stupid" faze. Seems like it would be fun to mess around with. I could recall more than 10x when it would have been nice to give someone a nice blast on the road. Not to mention, the sound would be completely unexpected coming from a little inocent integra. : )
