GPS Theft Protection
I did a little searching on http://mujen.com amd found this: http://www.whereismycar.com
Apparently you can install this device in your car, and then track where your car is over the internet.
Has anyone seen a review on this product, or know of anything simular?

Just by looking at the product on their site, it's probably not worth it. Here's why, notice how you have to plug the unit into the cigarette outlet? The thing is worthless as soon as the thieves disconnects it. Maybe it comes with a battery backup, but any smart thieves will toss it out as soon as they break in. I say still the best tracking device is Lo-Jack and couple it with a pager alarm. I'm looking at these two for the time being (the pager alarm system that is.) G'luck.
Go with the BOOMERANG..
Its the most safest and peace of mind protection you can invest in.
They dont even tell YOU "the owner" where they hide the thing...somewhere no theif will even look. so its totally out of the way and no one knows you have it..
They even guarantee your car to be recovered or your money back

With the BOOMERANG, do you have to rely on police to find your car? Thats the problem with lojac. Only certain cops have the device needed to detect lojac.
"...have to plug the unit into the cigarette outlet?"
That bothered me too. You could always just take the cigratte adapter off and wire it in to the fuse box though.

The only problem with Boomerang is that it is not offered in all states. I do not believe they offer boomerang in the south or the west. Sounds pretty good though.

Yoshi,
Which model of Alpine are you referring to? They site only shows 2 models under their "Product" section. Thanks for your help.
p.s. oh yeah, one more Q: how do you get the inside door handle cover off? I got the screws out and it seems like it's held by some clips. Can I just yank it out straight? I don't have the service manual as they are all out at Helm.

Didn't someone here loose an ITR, even with the Boomerang on? I thought I read something like that a while ago.
Anyway the problem with any GPS like device is that all the theif has to do is find the transmitter and disable it.

Yeah, I remember someone here posting there R got stolen with a car alarm, and lojac. I think they said only state cops have the lojac reciever, and some states don't have it at all. I never heard that he got it back.
The only way a theif can disable it, is if he knows it exists. I wouldn't put any stickers on my windows advertising it, or mount it under the dash.

I actually looked into the Alpine Unit but thats discontinued, supposedly by what i was told by a local shop they had some issues with the unit and any that were in stock had to be sent back to alpine and even if you could find one i guess they wont take any new customers for the tracking unit
I had my car stolen from NY with LoJack. I talked to the police about LoJack and my understanding is that unit will not be able to be tracked if parked in a NY City parking garage. So they said that is most likely what happened. LoJack definatly does help but its not near 100%, its been said before and I will say it again if the thieves want your car they will get it.
