87 Honda Accord LX - Emissions
does anyone know whats wrong with the car if it fails the emission test? the CO % should be below 1.1% but my car is at 2.63%.
oh I just noticed that the maniful hose is missing could that be the problem?

post your complete emmision readout: H2, CO & NO and we might be able to help you. Post both low and high speed tests as well as the CO2 and O2 levels at each.
Also post the general running condition of the car and total miles. Any new parts?

okay here is the readout
Cylinders 4
Odometer 158000
Gas Cap Test Result: Pass
Test Type:ASM Prescribed Type: ASM
------------------ HC (PPM) CO (%) CO+CO2 (%) O2 (%) RPM
Cruise Limit: 160 / 1.1 / 6 / N/A / N/A
Cruise Emissions: 139 / 2.63 / 16.43 / 0.01 / 2680
Cruise Result: Pass / Fail / N/A / N/A / N/A
Idle Limit: 220 / 1.2 / 6 / N/A / N/A
Idle Emissions: 85 / 0.01 / 13.31 / 2.97 / 820
Idle Result: Pass / Pass / N/A / N/A / N/A
okay new parts.. let me think... I got new spark plugs, spark cables and the black part, where the 4 cables end up in and where just one goes out of it.. sorry I have no idea what the name of that part is. I hope I described it well enough.
the air filter is new aswell but thats about it..
well my guess is that the missing hose could be a factor... the manifuld hose but then agian I am not a mechanic.
if there is anything else u need to know let me know, thanks

any CEL? I sold my car the second year that it failed emissions. the first time I did a tune up, but the real problem was the O2 sensor
Well, looking at your idling levels, your car seems to be in good shape emmision wise (i.e. your catalytic convertor). I like seeing that the H2 and Co Levels are low but your O2 levels are still high. This is a good thing b/k O2 is used up in the process of getting rid of H2 and CO.
(H2 will combine with CO + O2 to make CO2 and H20)
What is interesting is that your H2 levels increase and CO levels increase WAAY up even though your O2 levels are shooting down to almost nothing at the high-speed test. Usually, when the O2 levels shoot down, the H2 + CO levels *should* be shooting down too (since all three react with each other and get used up - you should see high CO2 levels).
I think your car is emmision-wise good but definately that missing manifold is playing a factor. Perhaps it provides a vacuum at speed that controls O2 delivery? I say if you find that manifold hose, your car should pass at the high-speed test. Good luck.

hey thanks for your help.
I just noticed that the air breather filter is missing as well and the oil breather filter looks like its completely clogged or its missing too cause there are some oil rests in the airfilter. damn I keep finding parts that are missing...
